Player Bio

Another doughty wicket-keeper batter who plays for Sydney Thunder, Mathew Gilkes is a classy left-handed batter who is generally known for his wicket-keeping skills.

He made his T20 debut for the Thunder against Perth Scorchers in January 2019 and since then has been in and out of the side. He earned his first full-time contract with Thunder ahead of the BBL 09 season.

Gilkes had a dream BBL debut against Scorchers as he opened the batting alongside Shane Watson and smashed a 38-ball 51 to announce his arrival in some style.

The 2019/20 domestic season was a special one for Gilkes as he earned an opportunity to make his first-class and List-A debut for NSW.

Recently Gilkes signed a two-year deal with the Thunder which keeps him at the club until the end of BBL season 12.
