Player Bio

A fluent, elegant opening batsman, Adam Lyth has been in Yorkshire through and through and seen his best days at the County giants. Nicknamed “Peanut”, Adam Lyth emerged as one of Yorkshire’s classic top-order batsmen when he made his first-class debut in 2007.

Lyth first shot to fame in 2010 when he became the first batsman to reach 1,000 first-class runs in that particular English campaign and subsequently earned an Ashes call-up for the 2010/11 tour, though had to wait until 2015 to finally get a Test cap.

Lyth had his breakthrough season in 2014 with Yorkshire, amassing 1619 runs in his first-class ventures runs with seven tons, including two double centuries. He was widely honoured as county cricket’s best player as Yorkshire won the Championship that year. On the back of a mesmerizing 2014 Championship season, he got his first Test cap against New Zealand on May 21st, 2015. Lyth scored 266 runs in seven Test appearances in 2015, including an Ashes series win and a sole century against New Zealand at Headingley in May.

Predominantly a red-ball player, Lyth’s blistering knock of 161 off 73 balls against Northants in 2017 made him an overnight sensation. He achieved the highest T20 score ever witnessed in England and Yorkshire laid claim to the highest team total in T20 history. The following English summer, he plundered his best List A score, amassing 144 against Lancashire, and proved to be a dominant opener in all formats of cricket.

The Yorkshire opener is part of the Northern Superchargers franchise based at Emerald Headingley who will play a 100-ball game per side. Originally a red-ball player, Lyth has shown his exploits in the shortest format and will be a crucial part of the Superchargers in the upcoming tournament.
