Player Bio

Another exciting player to have come out of the U-19 setup, Tony de Zorzi is a South African cricketer who started on a bright note at the age-group tournaments. After grinding it hard in domestic cricket for a couple of seasons, de Zorzi became a regular in the Test setup after debuting in 2023.

Coming through the age-group system, de Zorzi was always a special talent and was named the captain of South Africa’s squad for the 2016 U-19 World Cup. It was a special year for him as the aggressive left-handed batter made his much-awaited List-A debut for the Northerns during the 2016-17 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge.

In October 2018, De Zorzi was named in the Tshwane Spartans squad for the inaugural edition of the Mzansi Super League T20 tournament.

He showed his true class in the 2019-20 CSA 4-Day Franchise Series. The southpaw amassed an unbeaten 213 runs against the Cape Cobras and garnered praise from the cricketing fraternity in South Africa.

In November 2021, he was drafted into the South Africa A squad for their series against the touring India A side.

He continued to impress in domestic cricket, averaging 48.33 in first-class matches during the 2021-22 season and 69.00 in the 2022-23 season, which included a triple-century.

These achievements earned him a spot in the national team. De Zorzi made his Test debut against the West Indies in February 2023 and his ODI debut against the same team in March 2023. In December 2023, he scored his maiden international century– an unbeaten 119– against India, helping South Africa level the series.

In October 2024, de Zorzi achieved his first Test century against Bangladesh.

De Zorzi has also been active in T20 cricket, representing Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 league. In February 2025, his performance helped the team secure a spot in the SA20 2025 final.

With his attacking batting style and leadership qualities, Tony de Zorzi continues to be a promising talent in South African cricket, contributing across all formats.
