Player Bio

Tanzim Hasan Sakib is a right-arm fast-medium bowler who has emerged as a promising talent in Bangladeshi cricket.

Born on October 20, 2002, in Sylhet, Sakib began his education at Adityapur Government Primary School, where he excelled academically, securing a talent pool scholarship in the Primary Education Completion (PEC) exam.

He continued his studies at Balaganj Government DN Model High School. Balancing academics and sports, and the paceman is currently pursuing a degree in Islamic History and Culture at the University of Dhaka.

Sakib’s interest in cricket was nurtured in his school. In 2016, studying in 8th grade, he participated in a selection camp at Moulvibazar District Stadium, aiming to secure a spot in the national under-13 team.

His controlled bowling ability helped him be a part of a three-month specialized bowling program at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. Later, he migrated to the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, the country's premier sports institute, for a better future in the sport.

After training at the sports institute for a bit, Sakib was included in Bangladesh’s Under-17 team in a series against India. Showing his consistency, he didn’t have to wait long for a spot in the Under-19 team as he was selected for tours to England and Sri Lanka in 2019.

Sakib developed himself as a quality bowler with various variations which helped him make his List A debut for Sylhet Division in March 2021, during the National Cricket League, and made his T20 debut for Abahani Limited by June 2021, in the Dhaka Premier Division T20 Cricket League.

The pace sensation was a crucial part of Bangladesh’s glorious squad of the 2020 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Soon, he bagged a place for himself in the Asia Cup 2023 squad. Sakib announced his potential in the Super-4 fixture against India, bagging two crucial wickets amd playing a pivotal role in Bangladesh's narrow six-run victory.

The youngster was part of Bangladesh's 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup 2023.

With his career taking leaps forward, he found himself in the middle of a few controversies.

Shortly after making his international debut, Sakib faced a wave of criticism for his misogynistic comments on social media posts, where he was seen discouraging working women.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board had to delve into the issue, which eventually led to Sakib’s public apology. He emphasized his respect for women, citing his mother as a significant influence in his life.

In his short career, Tanzim Hasan Sakib has shown that he has all the ingredients to become a three-format great for Bangladesh. However, the youngster would need to work on his discipline to succeed at the highest level.
