The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 is in its final stretch, as the teams bid for the spots in the final qualifiers for next year’s ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Among the frontrunners to move ahead in the next round of qualifiers, Scotland, are all set to return for some ODI action for the first time since May 20.
Currently second on the table, they will play their last four matches next month and have brought back some exciting talents to join captain Richie Berrington’s roster, which also includes stars like George Munsey and Brandon McMullen, among others.
Scotland announce squad for the final CWCL2 fixtures
Following their golden ticket to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Scotland have already played a fair share of ODI cricket over the summer. However, some of the results have not gone their way, making their last set of fixtures instrumental for them to move ahead.
To add some youth to the Richie Berrington-led side, the Scots have called up the 23-year-old right-hand batter Lyle Robertson to the team for the first time. While most of the core group remains intact, pacer Zainullah Hasan is in line for a potential debut.
After Michael Jones’ Lancashire duties, he is back in the ODI squad for the first time since November 2024.
"Zainullah has shown excellent progress across the summer with his performances in training, in club cricket for GHK and in regional cricket with Western Warriors. Michael missed our previous two tours due to his Lancashire commitments, so it's exciting to have a player of his quality available again for a home series," said head coach Owen Dawkins.

Scotland eye back-to-back ICC main events:
Scotland received a last-minute entry to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, due to their rankings. However, when it comes to the ODI World Cups, they have not been able to reach the main event since 2015.
During the Qualifiers for the 2023 tournament in India, they dramatically fell short on net run rate, courtesy of their final day loss to Netherlands in Bulawayo. With the World Cup being extended to 14 teams, they have a golden opportunity to make it to the event for the fourth time in their history in 2027.
As things stand, Scotland are seated 2nd on the points table behind USA, eyeing a spot in the final Qualifiers. They have 38 points in 32 matches and have their foot in the next rounds. Now they will look to finish the League 2 strong against the two lowest-ranked teams in the current cycle, i.e., Canada (7th) and the bottom-placed UAE.
