Virat Kohli has built his IPL legacy on mastering run chases, consistently guiding RCB through pressure situations with remarkable composure. Failures while chasing remain extremely rare in his career, making every low score in a pursuit instantly become a major talking point.
That happened again during RCB’s IPL 2026 clash against LSG on Thursday when Virat Kohli fell for a two-ball duck chasing 213 in Lucknow. The dismissal immediately sparked one major question among fans that when was Virat Kohli’s last duck during an IPL chase?
Virat Kohli Hit First Duck Since 49 All Out Game
Virat Kohli scored his last duck in an IPL run chase before the LSG fixture in 2026 way back in 2017 against the Gautam Gambhir-led KKR side during the infamous match where RCB were bowled out for just 49 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
That game remains one of the most shocking collapses in IPL history, with RCB failing to chase down 132 after being dismantled by the KKR bowling attack. Kohli himself departed for a golden duck after getting out against Nathan Coulter-Nile on the first ball.
The 49 all out collapse became the lowest team total ever recorded in IPL history and continues to remain a painful chapter in RCB’s journey. Despite the presence of Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, the batting lineup completely collapsed.
For nearly nine years after that unforgettable night in Kolkata, Kohli managed to avoid another duck while batting in an IPL chase. That streak finally came to an end during RCB’s encounter against LSG in IPL 2026 at Lucknow.

After Nine Years, Virat Kohli Fell Again For A Duck in an IPL Run Chase
Viirat Kohli’s latest duck in an IPL run chase came during match 50 of IPL 2026 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, where RCB were chasing a challenging 213-run target in a rain-hit contest reduced to 19 overs per side.
Virat Kohli opened the innings for RCB but lasted only two deliveries before Prince Yadav produced a stunning nip-backer that jagged sharply off the surface, went through the defence and dismantled Virat Kohli’s off stump.
The Delhi pacer bowled Kohli in the second over of the innings, leaving both the batter and the Lucknow crowd stunned. It was a dream moment for Prince Yadav against one of the greatest batters in IPL and modern day cricket.
The dismissal also marked Kohli’s 11th duck in IPL history overall and his first zero score in the tournament since April 23, 2023, when he fell first ball against Rajasthan Royals to Trent Boult in an afternoon game.

How Significant Is Virat Kohli In IPL Run Chases?
Virat Kohli’s consistency while chasing targets remains one of the defining aspects of his IPL career, which is why ducks in run chases attract enormous attention. Even after this dismissal, he has managed only 11 ducks across an extraordinarily long and successful IPL journey.
What makes the LSG dismissal even more notable is the timeline attached to it. Kohli had not recorded a duck during an IPL chase since the infamous 49 all out against KKR in 2017, underlining just how reliable he has remained under pressure.
