On September 1, the BCCI announced India's T20I squad vs Afghanistan for the upcoming three-match series. In a historic event, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) will host the Indian team in India for the very first time to commemorate the long-standing friendship between the South Asian nations. 

The series commences on September 13, with the two teams set to face each other in a riveting encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The subsequent encounters will be played at the same venue on September 15 and 17, respectively. 

Afghanistan series will be Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's 1st assignment for India on home soil

The India vs Afghanistan series will mark Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's first-ever outing for the national team on home soil. Sooryavanshi made his debut for India aged 15 on the England tour, registering a string of low scores. 

The Afghanistan series gives him a great opportunity to capitalise on home advantage and put up an impactful performance for India at Arun Jaitley Stadium, the venue for the three-match series.

As evidenced by the data presented in the above table, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has batted in 30 T20 innings in India across two major tournaments- the IPL and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Sooryavanshi has played for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, while representing Bihar in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in two editions. 

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's T20 record in India suggests that he has been phenomenal in the IPL, amassing 1028 runs at a magnificent average of 44.69 and a blistering strike rate of 228.95. The batting sensation has hammered six fifties and two hundreds for Rajasthan Royals, taking around 3 innings to register a fifty-plus score in the IPL.

On the contrary, he has blown hot and cold in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy competition for Bihar, recording five scores of less than 15 runs in seven outings. 

Thus, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's T20 record in India reveals that he has mostly struggled with the bat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, barring a scintillating 61-ball 108 against Maharashtra in the 2025 edition. 

Despite finding it tough to get going in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Sooryavanshi has smashed 1238 runs, averaging 42.68 and striking at 211.98 on Indian soil, on the back of two stellar IPL seasons for Rajasthan Royals. 

While Sooryavanshi has never bowled in the IPL, he has rolled his arms for 2.5 overs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, going wicketless for 37 runs at an abysmal economy rate of 13.06.

After recording three successive failures on India's tours of Ireland and England, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi redeemed himself with blazing knocks when the Men in Blue visited Zimbabwe for a three-match T20I series. 

Sooryavanshi became the youngest batter to score a T20I half-century in the first match of the India vs Zimbabwe series. 

Although he was dismissed for 20 in the next game, the southpaw finished the tour with another fluent knock of 81 runs off just 49 deliveries.
