Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a memorable outing in East Zone's Duleep Trophy clash against Central Zone, as he hammered a blistering knock of 92 runs. The swashbuckling southpaw missed out on a well-deserved hundred, with Harsh Dubey getting his prized scalp in the 26th over of the innings.
After restricting Central Zone to 266 in their first innings, the East Zone had an outstanding start to their innings, courtesy of a rollicking opening partnership between Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhimanyu Easwaran.
While Easwaran looked steady for a composed half-century, Sooryavanshi played the aggressor's role on expected lines, attaining a major landmark with his maiden fifty in the Duleep Trophy.

Before being dismissed by left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi struck seven boundaries and as many sixes for a whirlwind 81-ball 92.
Although Sooryavanshi couldn't bring up his century, the 15-year-old became the youngest batter to hit a fifty in the Duleep Trophy. He broke a 57-year-old record held by former cricketer Laxman Singh to claim the first position on the elite list of Indian batters.

As evidenced by the data, Laxman Singh was the youngest batter to score a fifty in the Duleep Trophy before Vaibhav Sooryavanshi broke his record in the East Zone vs Central Zone encounter.

The former cricketer achieved the milestone aged 16 years and 23 days, while Sooryavanshi did it at the age of 15 years and 157 days.
Former Indian spinner Piyush Chawla, who is also one of India's youngest debutants, claims the third position, having slammed a fifty at the age of 16 years and 307 days in the Duleep Trophy.

As we have seen before, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi plays his natural game irrespective of his personal milestones. It doesn't matter whether it's the first ball of the innings or he is approaching a century, as Sooryavanshi tends to take the bowlers to the cleaners if the ball is there to be hit.
Something similar happened in the East Zone vs Central Zone clash, as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi fell prey to his own attacking instincts after becoming the youngest player to score a fifty in the Duleep Trophy.
The 15-year-old had collected 11 runs, including a four and a six, off Saransh Jain's bowling in the 25th over. Still, when Central Zone skipper Rajat Patidar handed the ball to left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey, Sooryavanshi decided to maximise the favourable match-up and unsettle the Indian bowler.
As Dubey lured him with a flighted full-length delivery, Sooryavanshi miscued a lofted sweep shot, hitting it straight to the mid-wicket and losing his wicket in the process. Since the IPL 2026, Sooryavanshi has breached the 90-run mark six times, converting only one of those into a hundred. Thus, he has been dismissed five times in the nervous nineties in this period.

Notably, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a forgettable debut game in the Duleep Trophy. Opening the batting for East Zone against the North East Zone, he was dismissed for eight runs by Manipur bowler Bishworjit Konthoujam.
However, the flamboyant knock against Central Zone not only helped Sooryavanshi become the youngest batter to score a fifty in the Duleep Trophy but also revitalised his topsy-turvy First-Class career.
Overall, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has scored 307 runs, including two half-centuries, in 14 innings in red-ball cricket. Although he averages 21.92 in First-Class cricket, the southpaw's blazing knock against Central Zone will boost his morale and encourage him to capitalise on the momentum in the upcoming matches.
