The IPL 2026 final is set to deliver an exciting contest as Gujarat Titans take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 31. This will be the first IPL final meeting between the two teams, adding even more excitement to the occasion.

Gujarat Titans have enjoyed a remarkable season and secured their place in the final after defeating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets. As a result, captain Shubman Gill and his teammates will be aiming to lift their second IPL trophy.

Ahead of the big clash, it is worth looking at Gill’s performances in previous IPL finals and how he has handled cricket’s biggest T20 stage.

Shubman Gill’s Journey In IPL Finals

Shubman Gill has already played three IPL finals in his career, and the 2026 final will be his fourth appearance.

His first IPL final came in 2021 while representing KKR against Chennai Super Kings. Opening the batting, Gill scored 51 runs from 43 deliveries at a strike rate of 118.60. His innings helped KKR post a total of 165 runs. Despite his effort, Chennai Super Kings claimed victory by 27 runs.

Following his stint with KKR, Gill joined Gujarat Titans and quickly became one of the team’s most important players. In 2022, Gujarat Titans reached the final in their debut season and faced Rajasthan Royals. Gill remained unbeaten on 45 from 43 balls.

Although the innings was steady rather than explosive, it helped Gujarat Titans comfortably chase the target and win the title by seven wickets.

A year later, Gujarat Titans once again reached the final, this time against CSK. Notably, Gill played an attacking knock of 39 runs from only 20 balls, scoring at a strike rate of 195.00. Even so, CSK went on to win the match by five wickets through the DLS method.

Across his three IPL final appearances, Shubman Gill has scored 135 runs from 106 balls. In addition, he has maintained an average of 67.50 and a strike rate of 127.35.

Notably, these numbers shows his ability to stay composed in high-pressure matches. At the same time, his final performances have been solid rather than truly dominant. Even so, contributing valuable runs in title-deciding games remains an important achievement for any batter.

Since making his IPL debut in 2018, Gill has developed into one of the tournament’s leading batters. So far, he has played 133 matches and scored 4,588 runs at a strike rate of 142.13. Furthermore, he has registered five centuries and 32 half-centuries during his IPL career.

Therefore, Gill enters another final with plenty of experience and a proven record on the big stage.

How Has Shubman Gill Fared Against RCB In IPL 2026?

Shubman Gill has been outstanding throughout the IPL 2026 season. Alongside Sai Sudharsan, he has formed one of the most successful opening partnerships in the tournament.

Currently, Gill sits third in the IPL Orange Cap race with 722 runs from 15 innings at an impressive strike rate of 163.71. Moreover, he has performed well against Royal Challengers Bengaluru this season, scoring 77 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 157.14.

As the final approaches, Gujarat Titans will once again rely on their captain to provide a strong start. If Gill continues his excellent form, he could play a decisive role against RCB’s pace attack featuring experienced bowlers such as Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood.
