After the Bangladesh Cricket Board shared a few days ago that the Board of Control for Cricket in India is negotiating a window for the India vs Bangladesh white-ball series, BCB president Tamim Iqbal has now revealed a new development regarding the anticipated clash.
While there was almost no possibility of the series being conducted in 2026 amid India's packed cricketing calendar, Tamim Iqbal has now revealed that they are looking to fast-forward things and conduct the series as soon as possible.
Tamim Iqbal reveals BCCI's intent on India vs Bangladesh series
The BCB president shared that he is very positive about the development of the series, which might take place in September itself. The possibility, which was previously scrapped due to the schedule reaching almost a point of no return, could now be back on the table.
Iqbal shared that the BCCI has been showing good intentions and a positive approach towards the development, and hence, he remains hopeful.
“That it (India series) won't happen hasn't been decided yet,” Tamim was quoted as saying by popular sports platform Not Out Noman on Sunday.
“Still, let me give a quick piece of information. Both boards are very sincere that this thing happens. Both BCCI and BCB and we are looking at windows as well, which time what can be done. Roughly a date, around which we are also thinking whether it can be done at this time or not.
If I saw the intention was negative, then today I wouldn't even have said this word to you, 'Let's see what happens, we're hopeful.' I wouldn't have even said this word. Intentions are very positive,” he said.

Earlier, August 2025 was the initial preliminary date for the India vs Bangladesh white-ball series. However, the T20 World Cup 2026 fiasco led to the postponement of the series and strained relations between the two neighbours.
Now, according to Tamim Iqbal, new dates are being worked out despite the packed schedules of both Bangladesh and India.
“There are certain things that are beyond our control. And I never want to cross that line as BCB president, okay? But intentions are good, we are continuously communicating.
Dates are also being figured out, because Bangladesh is also busy, they are also busy. Bangladesh has three series in between. They also, India, BCCI stay very busy with their matches. But we are having a regular discussion regarding this,” he added.
Will BCCI agree with BCB to a bilateral series amid a packed schedule?
Tamim Iqbal showed considerable confidence in the progress being made between the two boards, indicating that the Indian management has not completely ignored or abandoned Bangladesh over the anticipated series.
However, the Shubman Gill- and Shreyas Iyer-led units have a packed schedule until February 2027, followed by a possible IPL edition in March, making it quite unlikely that the team will play a white-ball tour of Bangladesh.
However, there is also a prospect that India could squeeze the series in between Test tours, since the Indian cricket team has separate players for different formats rather than relying entirely on multi-format players. This could help reduce the workload on individual players.
With three almost separate teams available across formats, India could potentially look to a small window in September and adjust it to accommodate the Bangladesh series.
BCB or BCCI? Who will have the ultimate say?
Ultimately, the final call is likely to rest with the BCCI. Financially and institutionally, the Indian board holds far greater influence, while India do not face any major commercial setback if the bilateral series does not go ahead.
For Bangladesh, however, the equation is different. A series against India brings significant financial and commercial value, making the BCB naturally more eager to make it happen. That also explains Tamim Iqbal’s urgency in exploring every possible window.
The BCCI can afford to walk away; the BCB has much more to gain from finding a workable date. Hence, the final green light will almost certainly depend on India’s willingness to play the series.
