Sydney Sixers had a disastrous day on the field as Perth Scorchers bowled them out for 132 in the BBL 2025-26 final. The Moises Henriques-led team thus attained a shambolic record, registering the lowest-ever first innings score in BBL finals that have witnessed full-fledged contests.
Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers finished as the two most successful teams in the group stage. While the Scorchers entered the final following a convincing win in the qualifier, the Sixers knocked the Hurricanes out of the tournament to book their berth for the ultimate clash.
As these two teams locked horns for the final time, a jam-packed crowd anticipated a humdinger in the final. However, despite being blessed with a star-studded batting unit, the Sydney Sixers were bundled out for 132 and grabbed the limelight for the wrong reasons.
Sydney Sixers register lowest ever 1st innings total in BBL finals
Perth Scorchers' captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and elected to bowl first to capitalise on the overcast conditions. His decision proved to be a masterstroke, as the Scorchers bowlers kept the Sydney Sixers under the pump, chipping in with consistent breakthroughs.
Daniel Hughes, who replaced Babar Azam in the playing XI, departed for seven, while Steve Smith failed to convert his start into a significant score. The star duo of Josh Philippe and Moises Henriques managed 24 runs each, leading to a middle-order collapse that saw none of the Sixers batters breach the 20-run mark.
The destructive duo of Lachlan Shaw and Joel Davies could score 14 and 19 runs, respectively, while the Sixers' lower-order batters were dismissed for single-digit scores. Thus, they were bowled out for 132 runs, recording the lowest-ever first innings total in BBL finals.

Perth Scorchers off to a flying start in BBL final
In response, Perth Scorchers have got a magnificent start to the run-chase, courtesy of Mitchell Marsh and Finn Allen's fireworks. The swashbuckling duo has added 41 runs for the first wicket in just 3.5 overs, setting the foundation for a smooth run chase for their side.
As of writing, Marsh and Allen looked settled in the middle, batting on 18* and 16*, respectively. However, a passing shower might play spoilsport in the high-voltage contest, with the venue likely to witness slight drizzle during the second innings.
