Pakistan openers Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman went berserk against Sri Lanka in their must-win final Super 8 match of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Opening the innings at the Pallekele Stadium in Pallekele on Saturday, February 28; the two cricketers shared 176 runs together in just 15.5 overs.
Through the course of their blistering partnership, both Farhan and Zaman also shattered a slew of some illustrious T20I batting records. Here is a look at all major landmarks unlocked by the two attacking Pakistani openers following their batting mayhem against tournament co-hosts Sri Lanka.

Fakhar Zaman on top of Pakistan’s six-hitting pile
Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman launched four huge sixes in the evening in his 84-run whirlwind from just 42 balls. Zaman’s six-laden knock also extended his tally to 99 sixes in T20I cricket. He has now surpassed senior pro Mohammad Rizwan to become Pakistan’s leading six-hitter in the format.

Sahibzada Farhan surpasses Virat Kohli for huge T20 World Cup record
Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan hammered down his second T20I century, and also his second of the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup. When he reached 37* early in the innings, the 30-year-old surpassed former India captain Virat Kohli for a huge T20 World Cup record, that of aggregating the highest number of runs in a single edition of the tournament.
As of now, Farhan remains the only batter in T20 World Cup history to mount over 350 runs at a single showpiece event.

Sahibzada Farhan scales another world record
Sahibzada Farhan notched up his fourth fifty-plus score of the 2026 T20 World Cup through his latest 60-ball century against Sri Lanka in Pallekele. In doing so, the Pakistani run machine has become one of only four batters in tournament’s history to chart four scores of 50 or more in a single event.
He has joined an elite list comprising of the likes of Virat Kohli, Matthew Hayden and Pakistan teammate Babar Azam.

Sahibzada Farhan also levelled up with former West Indies opener Chris Gayle to become one of only two batters in history to score two centuries in T20 World Cup matches. While Gayle achieved the feat by plundering a ton each in 2007 and 2016; Farhan unleashed both his centuries in the ongoing edition itself.

Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan set up huge Pakistan record
Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan have now crafted Pakistan’s highest opening partnership in any T20 World Cup match. The two blistering openers surpassed Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s historic unbeaten 152-run stand, one which consigned India to a huge defeat back in late 2021 in Dubai.

Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan clinch huge World Cup record
Apart from notching up Pakistan’s highest opening partnership, Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan have also scaled the highest-ever partnership for any wicket in T20 World Cup history. The two cricketers surpassed New Zealand’s Tim Seifert and Finn Allen by a run.
Notably, the two New Zealand openers also charted their 175-run blitzkrieg earlier in the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup against UAE.

Pakistan mount 212 in must-win Super 8 match
Sri Lanka bowlers made a comeback of sorts to restrict Pakistan to 212-8 in 20 overs after their openers blazed to 150-0 at the end of the 14th over of the evening. Dilshan Madushanka (3-33) and Dasun Shanaka (2-42) picked up five wickets between them, all during the slog overs of the innings.
For Pakistan, Sahibzada Farhan muscled a 60-ball century and Fakhar Zaman slapped an electrifying 42-ball 84. However, no other Pakistan batter managed to hit the double-digits.
It is worth noting that in a bid to qualify for the semifinal of the 2026 T20 World Cup, the ‘Men in Green’ need to restrict Sri Lanka to 147 runs or lesser.
