Rohit Sharma got the Orange Cap in IPL 2026 after two delightful knocks for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing edition. In the process, he went past MS Dhoni’s supreme record in the competition, while Virat Kohli stayed far away.

Rohit made 78 off just 38 deliveries against KKR in MI’s IPL 2026 opener at Wankhede Stadium. He followed it with a 26-ball 35, which had five fours and one six.

After that, Rohit’s IPL 2026 run tally became 113, coming at a strike rate of over 176. Punjab Kings' Cooper Connolly was second on the Orange Cap chart, with 108 runs over two innings.

Rohit Sharma Breaks MS Dhoni’s Elite IPL Record

During his 26-ball 35 against DC, Rohit smashed a six off Vipraj Nigam. With that, he has now got 51 sixes against the Delhi-based franchise.

In the list of players who had punished a single franchise with the most number of sixes, MS Dhoni had RCB as his favourite team to demolish. The CSK legend slammed 50 maximums against the Virat Kohli-starred franchise.

Rohit now has one more than Dhoni, while Kohli has smashed 48 sixes against CSK.

While Dhoni is unavailable for the RCB vs CSK match, the former RCB captain could improve his numbers tomorrow when the Bengaluru will host the high-voltage clash.

Meanwhile, Chris Gayle tops the chart. In fact, he has got the top two places.

Over the years, Gayle has represented three franchises – Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and RCB. His best IPL record was actually against two of his former franchises: PBKS and KKR.

While Gayle has smashed 61 sixes against Punjab Kings, the West Indian opener punished three-time IPL champions KKR with 54 gigantic hit. Safe to say, these thrashing came majorly during his stint with RCB.

Mumbai Tumble In Delhi During Afternoon

Amidst fans bashing Mumbai Indians for not making Rohit Sharma captain in Hardik Pandya’s absence, the five-time champions did not get an excellent start against Delhi.

At the time of writing this, MI are 130/5 after 16.3 overs, with Mitchell Santner and Naman Dhir holding the key for them. Dhir is batting on 24* off 14 balls, while Santner is on 2* off 3 deliveries.

For Delhi, Mukesh Kumar picked up two wickets in the Powerplay, of Ryan Rickelton and Tilak Varma. Captain Suryakumar Yadav notched up a fine half-century, but he failed to damage further.

Sherfane Rutherford, coming at No. 5, failed to impress, having only made 5 off 7 balls before losing his wicket to Vipraj Nigam.
