After getting hit on his left wrist on Day 1 at Colombo (SSC), Rishabh Pant came out like a warrior to handle the proceedings on the second day of the IND vs SL 2nd Test on Monday morning after Saransh Jain's wicket. Moreover, he levelled a famous record by Virat Kohli.
Just like the first day, Pant had to face blows from the Sri Lankan quicks, but this time around, he not only survived them but also neutralised their threat with a maverick innings.

As Rishabh Pant showed determination and character to come out to bat on Day 2, he was welcomed with a barrage of short balls from Lahiru Kumara. However, he fought through the challenges and banged a superb roof-shattering maximum off the quick's bowling.
Later, he slammed his 21st half-century in Test cricket, but missed out on a century after miscuing a lofted inside-out shot on the first ball after Lunch. Despite that, Pant managed to equal a Virat Kohli record.

After featuring in 90 Test innings, the swashbuckling wicketkeeper now has 29 fifty-plus scores, which is as many as Virat Kohli and Mohinder Amarnath had after playing their first 90 innings.
The legendary Sunil Gavaskar tops the list with 39 fifty-plus knocks, followed by Sachin Tendulkar (34) and Rahul Dravid (32). Pant sits in joint-fifth place, as he is behind Cheteshwar Pujara and Gundappa Viswanath, who had 30 fifty-plus scores.

Rishabh Pant tops WTC tally among Indians
During his courageous blitz at Colombo (SSC), Rishabh Pant also topped the tally for most runs in the World Test Championship (WTC) history.
Currently, the 28-year-old keeper has 2948 runs from 74 innings and is inching closer to becoming the first Indian to score 3000 runs in the WTC.
The prolific keeper-batter is in a close race with Shubman Gill, who sits next to Pant with 2917 runs. Among the top-five Indians are Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, but Ravindra Jadeja is currently fourth (2675 runs) on the list.
Meanwhile, Pant is currently 13th in the overall list, with England's Joe Root topping it with 6717 runs after 143 innings.
Rishabh Pant misses to equal Gautam Gambhir's tally
As Rishabh Pant was dismissed for 63 runs off Keshara Nuwantha's bowling on Day 3 of IND vs SL 2nd Test, he missed a chance to make it big.
Although it was his third half-century this year, the southpaw has not scored a century since Headingley in June 2025.
If Pant could have converted his knock in the first innings at Colombo (SSC), he would have levelled Gautam Gambhir and Navjot Singh’s tally of 10 Test hundreds.
Nevertheless, with the age on his side, he will get ample opportunities to add more centuries under his belt.
