Pakistan posted a competitive total against England in the second match of the ongoing ODI Tri-Series on Tuesday, October 20. Asked to bat first, they finished with 302/9 in 50 overs.

Despite an early collapse, Pakistan’s middle-order fought back to help the hosts reach 302/9. The total surpassed their previous best against England at Rawalpindi, set in 2005, and became their third-highest ODI total against England at home.

Middle-Order Fightback Lifts Pakistan To Formidable Total After Early Collapse

Pakistan suffered an early collapse after England elected to bowl, with Fakhar Zaman dismissed for a golden duck. Babar Azam managed just 34 off 52 balls, while last match's centurion Salman Agha also fell cheaply inside the first 20 overs.

Saad Baig and Hasan Nawaz revived the innings after Pakistan slipped to 81/4, adding 52 runs for the fifth wicket. Hasan continued the fightback with a brilliant 79 before departing with 10 overs remaining, leaving the hosts needing a strong finish.

Arafat Minhas (59 off 58) shifted gears alongside Faheem Ashraf (39 off 26) as Pakistan accelerated towards the end. The hosts smashed 91 runs in the final 10 overs to finish on 302/9, registering their highest ODI total against England at Rawalpindi.

Pakistan Register Third-Highest ODI Total Against England At Home

Pakistan’s total of 302/9 against England in the second match of the ODI Tri-Series is their third-highest ODI innings total against England at home. They surpassed the previous mark of 285 all out, recorded in Lahore in 2005, which had stood for 21 years.

Pakistan still have a higher benchmark to chase, with 353/6 against England in Karachi in 2005 remaining their highest home ODI total against the Englishmen. Their latest effort moves them closer to that mark.

England are touring Pakistan for an ODI series for the first time since 2005. Although they started strongly with the ball, they allowed the hosts to recover through a middle-order fightback and a late scoring surge.
