Bhuvneshwar Kumar made his return to the Indian squad for the high-profile five-match T20I tour of New Zealand. Playing his first full T20I series after nearly four years, the senior paceman is also joined by India’s teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

While Bhuvneshwar is the oldest cricketer in the current Indian T20I squad in New Zealand, 15-year-old Vaibhav remains the youngest member of the group. Here, we take a look at how old Sooryavanshi was when India’s comeback fast bowler had made his international debut.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's age when Bhuvneshwar made his India debut

Bhuvneshwar Kumar made his international debut for India way back on December 25, 2012 during India’s first home T20I of the series against Pakistan in Bengaluru. Aged 22 at the time, the then youngster wrecked Pakistan with the new ball and claimed exceptional bowling figures of 3-9.

Around the same time in a different part of the country, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was still a toddler and probably had yet to take his first steps into the world of cricket.

Born on March 27, 2011; Sooryavanshi’s exact age at the time of Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s international debut for Team India was 1 year, 8 months, 28 days old. The two cricketers were therefore at vastly different stages of their lives when Bhuvneshwar first donned the India jersey.

Separated by more than 21 years of age, both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi are currently part of Team India squad for their five-match T20I tour of New Zealand. The legendary fast bowler was included in the squad by the new Indian selection committee, led by Pragyan Ojha.

Kumar was called back into the national side on a trail of his impressive couple of IPL-winning seasons for the RCB franchise.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, meanwhile, continues to carve his own path in Indian cricket while sharing the dressing room with a player who first wore the national colours when he was barely a toddler.

Having made his own international debut in England just a couple of months ago, the youngster has since clinched the Asian Games gold medal for India in Nisshin, Japan.

From sharing an age gap that spans generations to now sharing the Indian dressing room, their journeys offer a striking glimpse into the changing face of Indian cricket.
