Bangladesh will face Australia in a two-match Test series. The first Test begins on August 13 at Marrara Oval in Darwin, with the second match scheduled for August 22 in Mackay. The series is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27.

The fact that cannot be denied is that Australia enter the series as the favourites. They are currently top of the World Test Championship table and have brought back experienced players such as Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon. The return of their senior bowling group makes the challenge even bigger for Bangladesh.

However, Bangladesh should not be written off and cannot be taken lightly. Having said this, in this article, let’s take a look at three players who can stun Australia.

Bangladesh To Face Australia After 23 Years Down Under

Bangladesh tour of Australia 2026 will be Bangladesh’s first Test series in Australia in 23 years. The last time Australia and Bangladesh played a Test series in Australia was in 2003. Australia won both matches and took the series 2-0.

The first Test was played in Darwin, and Australia won the match by an innings and 132 runs. In the second Test match, Australia defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 98 runs.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz

  • Mehidy Hasan Miraz could be one of Bangladesh's most important players in the series against Australia because he can contribute in both departments. The experienced all-rounder gives Bangladesh a reliable batting option lower down the order while also providing a major threat with his off-spin.
  • His value becomes even more important if the pitches in Darwin and Mackay offer help to spin later in the match. 
  • Taking a look at his stats from 2023 to 2026 in the Test format, he has played 21 Tests, scored 1,089 runs at an average of 34.03 and taken 73 wickets at an average of 29.08 and an economy rate of 2.96.
  • It is important to mention that Mehidy Hasan Miraz also showcased stellar form against Australia XI at Marrara Oval in Darwin. He made an unbeaten 109 runs off 141 balls, and with the ball he scalped two wickets.

Hasan Mahmud

  • Hasan Mahmud is another player who could make a difference for Bangladesh. The right-arm fast-medium bowler has developed into an important part of Bangladesh's pace attack. 
  • His strength is his ability to maintain a disciplined line while getting enough movement to trouble batters. On Australian pitches, that skill can become especially valuable.
  • Australia’s batters will expect Bangladesh's spinners to play a major role, but Hasan can provide a different challenge. His slightly fuller natural length can bring the outside edge into play, while any seam movement could make life uncomfortable for Australia's top order.

Najmul Hossain Shanto

  • Najmul Hossain Shanto is one of the Bangladesh’s most important player heading into the series. The left-hander has the responsibility of giving stability to a batting order that could come under serious pressure against Australia’s world-class attack.
  • Taking a look at his recent stats, in Bangladesh’s first Test against Pakistan in May 2026, Shanto scored 101 (130) and 87 (150); overall, the star player made 232 runs in 4 innings across 2 Tests at a strike-rate of 58.00 and average of 58.00.
  • Looking at his stats in the longest format (from 2023 to 2026), he has played in 21 matches and made 1,570 runs at an average of 41.32, including seven centuries and three fifties. He has the most runs and hundreds for Bangladesh since 1st January 2023 in the longest format.
  • Najmul Hossain Shanto's ability to play long innings will be crucial in Australia. If he can survive the opening spell from Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood, he could put pressure back on the hosts.
