Lord's hasn't been a happy hunting ground for batters. The iconic cricket ground in the heart of England has been the home of cricket for many decades. Yet, it appears to be just as haunting for modern-day batters as it was in the 90s.
However, the iconic pair of Jos Buttler and Joe Root together etched a special record at Lord's on July 19 that no other team has ever achieved. Playing the first ODI against India, the Root-Buttler duo helped England post a total of over 350 runs, which is a record in itself.
England posts a never-before-seen total at Lord’s
England, while facing the Indian bowlers, breached the total of 334 runs at Lord's Cricket Ground, recording the highest-ever total by any international team at the venue.
The previous highest was also set by England, who scored 334/4 against India in June 1975. However, England's iconic duo of Jos Buttler and Joe Root, along with a massive contribution from Ben Duckett with his historic 141-run knock, helped England breach that mark as they finished with 387 runs on the board at the end of their 50 overs.

The most expensive of the Indian bowlers was Gurnoor Brar, who went wicketless while conceding 97 runs from his 10 overs. Prasidh Krishna picked up only two wickets while maintaining a decent economy rate of 6.90, whereas Arshdeep Singh also went wicketless, conceding 72 runs from his full quota of overs.
England's iconic innings now puts them at the top of the list of the highest team totals at Lord's, a list that features only England, India, and South Africa in the top five.

Every other record that England breached in the IND vs ENG 3rd ODI
Not only did England set an ODI record, but their total of 387 also became the highest List A total at the venue. Jos Buttler, who scored 41 runs off just 13 deliveries, also etched his name into the record books by smashing his 350th six in List A cricket.
Joe Root, who also played a major role in England's massive total, broke a unique record by registering his 10th 50-plus score against India in ODIs, surpassing Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell, and Alastair Cook.
Alongside this, Root also moved to the top of the list for the most consecutive 50-plus scores for England in ODIs. He is currently on a streak of six consecutive 50-plus scores, surpassing the records of Sir Geoffrey Boycott, Graham Gooch, Alec Stewart, Graeme Fowler, and Graeme Hick.
Incidentally, this was only the second instance of England recording 100-plus partnerships for both the first and second wickets in the same ODI against India.
Previously, in Pune in 2021, England added 110 runs for the first wicket and 175 for the second wicket. This was also the first instance at Lord's of both the first and second wicket partnerships producing century stands in the same ODI innings.
Duckett display staggers India’s chances
Ben Duckett also registered a massive record with his knock of 141, which is now the second-highest individual score by an England batter against India in ODIs.
His 141 stands only behind Andrew Strauss' 158 in Bengaluru in 2011. Duckett's innings is also the highest individual ODI score at Lord's, surpassing Vivian Richards' 138 against England in 1979.
This mammoth display from England has rattled the Indian bowlers, with the responsibility now lying on the Indian batters to withstand England's bowling attack and chase down the mammoth target of 388 runs.
