Bas de Leede has scripted a historic knock to start off the ETPL 2026 season at the Sportpark Duivesteijn in Voorburg. Taking on the Rotterdam Dockers in the opening match of the inaugural ETPL edition, the Netherlands batting all-rounder punched out an attacking half-century.

Reaching the landmark figure of 41 balls during the 16th over of the Amsterdam Flames innings, Leede’s knock also helped him become the first half-centurion in the history of the league.

Bas de Leede notches up first-ever ETPL fifty

Netherlands cricketer Bas de Leede unleashed 75 runs off 53 balls for the Amsterdam Flames in the opening match of the ETPL 2026 season on Wednesday, August 26. The cricketer launched two huge sixes and seven cracking boundaries before getting trapped in front by Rotterdam Dockers’ South Africa import Anrich Nortje.

In the process, the 26-year-old has now become the first player in history to notch up an ETPL fifty, eclipsing teammates Max O’Dowd, Yuvraj Samra and Tim David for the notable feat after the Amsterdam Flames were put into bat first by Rotterdam skipper Faf du Plessis.

Bas de Leede plays lone hand for Amsterdam against experienced Rotterdam attack

With Bas de Leede punching out 75 runs off 53 balls, the next batter for the Amsterdam Flames franchise turned out to be opener Max O’Dowd, who made just a third of his teammate’s effort with a 25-run knock from 15 deliveries.

No other batter managed to breach the 20-run mark, as the Flames managed to aggregate just 157-8 from 20 overs. It is worth noting that apart from eight extras, the Netherlands all-rounder himself listed more than half of Amsterdam’s total against an experienced Rotterdam Dockers bowling attack.

Interestingly, much like how de Leede became the first player in ETPL history to score a fifty, fellow Netherlands cricketer Logan van Beek became the first player to pick up a wicket in the league.

A look at Bas de Leede’s T20 career

Aged 26, Bas de Leede has played 74 T20 matches to date in his career. He made his format debut back in June 2018 at Rotterdam.

Interestingly, the occasion also coincided with Leede’s T20I debut for Netherlands. Taking on Ireland, the all-rounder made a swift 33 in the game.

The star all-rounder has played 49 of those matches for the Netherlands cricket team in international T20s matches, aggregating 881 runs in the process at an average of 27.53 and with a strike rate of 106.65.

Overall, in his 73 match T20 career, Bas has generated 1,284 runs spanning 63 T20 innings at an average of 27.31. He has maintained a strike rate of 114.64 and plundered seven half-centuries.

The cricketer snared 58 wickets with the ball from 59 innings, which including 44 wickets while playing for the Netherlands team in T20Is.

With the historic milestone under his belt, Bas de Leede will now look to build on his impressive start as the ETPL 2026 season gathers momentum.
