The woman of the hour, Smriti Mandhana, arrived with a brilliant fifty in the ongoing Women’s Premier League Final 2026. Mandhana brought up the milestone while chasing a mammoth target of 204 against Delhi Capitals Women at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

With pressure mounting in the chase and Royal Challengers Bengaluru losing a wicket early, Mandhana’s partnership with Georgia Voll and her heroic knock lit up the chase, which initially felt like a losing cause for the 2024 champions.

Smriti Mandhana racks up a half-century during crucial chase

RCB’s skipper reached her half-century in just 23 balls while striking at over 200. She managed to keep the pressure off the team during the chase by keeping the required run rate under control and, along with Georgia Voll, pushed RCB’s total to 59 at the end of the powerplay.

Smriti Mandhana looked confident and flawless with the bat as she continued to lead from the front. Voll, at the other end, provided strong support as RCB slowly and steadily inched closer to the target in their bid to become two-time champions of the competition.

Mandhana’s splendid fifty was her third of the tournament. She had earlier scored 96 against Delhi Capitals, falling just four runs short of a historic WPL century.

Mandhana gets huge praise on social media

Nevertheless, Mandhana’s heroic effort was widely lauded on social media, with fans showering praise on the RCB skipper at a time when her team was reeling at 9/1 in the second over of the chase.

Let’s take a look at how the netizens reacted to Smriti Mandhana’s heroic efforts:

Delhi Capitals rack up huge total as RCB bowlers fail

In hindsight, RCB bowlers failed to keep things tight during Delhi Capitals' innings. After winning the toss, RCB chose to bowl first, and it seemed to have backfired as their premier bowler, Lauren Bell, failed to pick up a wicket from her four overs while conceding 19 runs.

Sayali Satghare picked up one wicket but was expensive, giving away 46 runs in her spell. Arundhati Reddy and Nadine de Klerk both took one wicket each, but also bowled at an economy rate of over 10.

Jemimah and Wolvaardt bag the best for Delhi

This allowed Delhi to produce a superb batting effort, with Lizelle Lee racking up 37 runs. Shafali Verma’s knock was brief but brisk as she scored 20 off 13 balls.

Laura Wolvaardt was explosive with her 44 off 25 balls before she was unfortunately run out by Richa Ghosh. Skipper Jemimah Rodrigues herself played a valiant knock of 58 off 37 balls, hitting eight boundaries. Chinelle Henry remained unbeaten on 35 off 15 balls, all of which contributed to the mammoth total of 203 in the WPL 2026 final.

However, with the rapid strokeplay that RCB are currently displaying, Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll now aim to finish the game as quickly as possible to lift their second WPL title.
