Sanju Samson's wicket brought reactions from social media (Source: AFP Photos & X)
Sanju Samson had the score of 33-ball 67 in the first T20I between India and New Zealand. However, he could not do much from there, with the scores reading 17-ball 14, 13-ball 18 and a two-ball 4.
And then, on Sunday, during India’s fifth and final T20I between India and New Zealand, all Samson could do was scoring four runs off 10 balls before losing his wicket to Adam Milne.
Courtesy of Samson’s struggles, India could not utilise the Powerplay after Mitchell Santner asked them to bat first. He was struggling ever since coming in the middle until getting a leading edge to Adam Milne.
Michael Bracewell made no mistake and completed the catch after running back from cover region.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Dragged Into Debate As BCCI Faces Flak For Sanju Samson Backing
Given that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is an out-and-out alternative to Sanju Samson, social media took little time to bring backlash to the BCCI.
Even though Sooryavanshi and Samson played together when Ishan Kishan was unavailable for selections, Kishan’s return to India playing XI forced Sooryavanshi out of the mix of things.
Therefore, failures after one after another from Samson brought the BCCI into the spotlight, as most of the social media handles claimed they are wasting a talent like Sooryavanshi, who is just 15 years old, and has all the potential to break Sachin Tendulkar’s landmark records if given the opportunity.
How internet reacted after another Sanju Samson failure
Here’s how the internet exploded as soon as Sanju Samson returned to the pavilion.
"Sanju Samson gone for 4(10). Suryavanshi's curse came for our openers in last 2 games!" @Rajiv1841
"Sack Sanju Samson. He has not footwork and is just in the team to destroy Sooryavanshi" @sasri83
"Ignored Sooryavanshi yet again while Samson struggles through another wasted powerplay. If we're already dropping games, why not take the risk and back raw youth over repeated slip-ups? Social media is about to melt down, and rightly so." @amitjournalist
It would be interesting to see how the BCCI approaches from hereon. Sanju Samson just had one successful outing out of five opportunities, and no wonder social media brought out debate to snubbing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for him.
