It now appears that all rumors involving Pandya’s trade were fake and the Mumbai Indians franchise appears hell-bent on retaining its captain and seasoned all-rounder for IPL 2027 season next year.

A recent social media post by Mumbai Indians indicate that the franchise might retain captain Hardik Pandya for the IPL 2027 season next year. In the post, the franchise shared a series of pictures of the experienced all-rounder in his Mumbai Indians jersey, with the caption that reads “Memo: Make it HP coded.”
Despite growing reports of multiple franchises showing interest in acquiring the 32-year-old, the Mumbai Indians management would not have made this social media post if the rumors held any weight.

The social media post also sparked a wave of jubilation among many Mumbai Indians fans, with several of them believing that the legendary all-rounder might well be retained by the five-time title winning franchise.

When Mumbai Indians rejected Hardik trade rumours
Amid growing trade rumours regarding Hardik, a Mumbai Indians official dismissed any such reports that indicated that the franchise was letting go of the cricketer.
While speaking with Sportstar last month, the official stated that the franchise is in its post IPL 2026 season review and there are have been no conversations or talks regarding a trade for any player.
With Mumbai Indians dropping a Pandya-centric social media post on August 19, coupled with an official stating that the cricketer was not up for trade, it indicates that the franchise remains keen on retaining the all-rounder for the IPL 2027 season.
Which franchises have shown interest in Hardik Pandya?
Over the past couple of months, several IPL franchises have reportedly demonstrated their interest in acquiring the Mumbai Indians skipper.
One of those franchises was none other than Mumbai Indians’ biggest rival, the CSK franchise. Several reports indicated that the CSK management was in talks with Mumbai Indians over trading in Pandya, with those talks only falling through after the franchise refused to sack Ruturaj Gaikwad as team captain.
Later, the KKR franchise emerged as a leading contender in acquiring Hardik Pandya from Mumbai Indians, especially after their regular skipper Ajinkya Rahane announced his retirement from all forms of the game.
At some stages, even Delhi Capitals has reportedly demonstrated its interest for the senior all-rounder.
All in all, it now appears that the MI management is willing to give Pandya at least one more IPL season, even though the legendary all-rounder is yet to win a single title for his franchise since becoming full-time skipper in 2024.
