Vaibhav Sooryavanshi suffered yet another failure against England, this time in the third T20I of their five-match series at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Chasing 202 runs to win, the young Indian opener started off his innings with a couple of huge sixes before nicking one behind towards wicketkeeper Jos Buttler off Jofra Archer.

Sooryavanshi, who made his international debut just a couple of days ago earlier in the series, has now registered just 27 runs from his first two innings combined in ‘Men in Blue’ colors. As one can expect, his failure attracted much outrage among Indian cricket fans, with several of them demanding the return of Sanju Samson.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was included in Team India squad for the T20I tours of Ireland and England. After failing to find a place in the Indian playing XI in Ireland and in the opening no-result against England, the 15-year-old was named in the team in place of Sanju Samson for the second and third T20Is of the series.

While Sooryavanshi started off his career with a 14-run knock from 10 balls in Manchester, the youngster managed just 13 off five balls in his next innings during India’s chase of 202 in Nottingham.

With just 27 runs in his first two innings for India, the Rajasthan Royals opener is yet to translate his IPL success to international cricket, prompting many online fans to urge the team management to bring back ousted Samson.

Some fans even threatened to ‘switch off’ their TV sets, thus hinting towards dissociating themselves from the game. Here is a look at some of the fans demanding the return of Sanju Samson after Sooryavanshi’s twin failures in England.

Sanju Samson still in contention despite England, Zimbabwe snub

Even though Sanju Samson has been gradually replaced by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in England, and has been excluded altogether from India’s upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, the T20 World Cup winning cricketer is still in contention to play T20I cricket for the national side.

For starters, several reports stated that Samson was ‘rested’ from the Zimbabwe tour for the management to try out fresh talents. Moreover, the blistering wicketkeeper-batter is already named in India squad for this year’s 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

India falter in big chase vs England

Chasing 202 runs to win in a bid to level the five-match T20I series, India lost both openers, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma inside the first three overs. Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer also failed to lead India’s recovery as the visitors soon slipped to 41-4.

India’s troubles took a turn for the worse with the loss of Tilak Varma and Axar Patel to crash to 60-6 in 7.1 overs.

Earlier in the match, England mounted 201-7 in 20 overs courtesy of an attacking 44-ball 70 from Phil Salt.
