After a five-day break in the IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are all readiness to take on the bottom-dwellers Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 28 at the Eden Gardens, on Sunday afternoon.
The Riyan Parag-led unit became a meme-feast following their awful batting against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last outing. They were reduced to 9/5 (no jokes) by Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain's brilliant opening burst.
As RR were reduced to 9 for 5 in the chase of 217 runs, they needed a miracle! And the pair of Donovan Ferreira & Ravindra Jadeja was nothing short of a blessing. They stitched a remarkable partnership of 118 runs, but their special efforts could only save them from embarrassment, and they lost by a massive margin of 57 runs.
Although the Royals didn't lose the game in the chase, the bowlers were the prime reason the game slipped away after removing both SRH openers. Skipper Ishan Kishan punished one of the best bowling lineups with a marvellous 91, alongside cameos from Heinrich Klaasen, Salil Arora and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Ahead of their next fixture, let us see what chopping and choosing can be done in the RR Playing XI vs KKR in the IPL 2026, Match 28.

Top Order: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel
After hitting over 200 runs in the first four games, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi failed vs SRH by falling on a golden duck. As Praful Hinge was on fire, he created a secret sauce to dismiss the young prodigy cheaply. It was a rare failure for Sooryavanshi, but he will still be the most important player in the RR Playing XI vs KKR.
Just like Sooryavanshi, the in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel failed. Both of them will key in on the RR Playing XI, considering the depth in KKR’s bowling. Moreover, the duo have batting style that's best suited for a track like Eden Gardens.
Middle Order & All-Rounders: Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Donovan Ferreira
Riyan Parag batted out of his position to place Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who played over the out-of-form Shimron Hetmyer. However, the move backfired for RR vs SRH, so you may see both Parag and Hetmyer batting at their preferred positions - i.e. number four and five, respectively.
The batting heroes in the RR Playing XI against Hyderabad. Not only they added 118 runs batting together, they revived the Rajasthan Royals from 9 for 5 to 127/6.
Bowlers: Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, Ravi Bishnoi, Brijesh Sharma
The new ball pair of Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger has to be the most dangerous bowling pair, hands down. On their given days, they can demolish any batting side. Against KKR, they will enjoy bowling in Kolkata, which traditionally favours the quicks. Thus, they will be very crucial in the RR Playing XI vs KKR, if they get to bowl second.
Ravi Bishnoi has been a revelation for the team in Pink and Blue. The leggie has taken nine wickets, but wasn't any effective against SRH. However, he will become a gun bowler if RR bowls first in Kolkata.
The team management will make a tactical change to replace Tushar Deshpande with Brijesh Sharma, who was dropped after taking two wickets vs RCB. Sandeep Sharma or Shubham Dubey will be used as the Impact Player options considering the required in the RR Playing XI vs KKR.
