Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are on a roll in the IPL 2026 while defending their maiden title. As the Rajat Patidar-led unit have won four out of five matches, they are set to play their mandate green jersey fixture against the Delhi Capitals on Saturday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
As part of their "Go Green" initiative, RCB has been actively wearing the Green Jersey once a season since 2011, which is made from recycled materials.
Although the initiative itself is for a noble cause, the Bengaluru-based franchise has had a good time on the field during the green jersey fixtures. In this article, let us look at RCB's records in games where they have donned green.
RCB's records in green jersey matches
Before RCB vs DC game, the team in Red and Gold have played 14 Go Green fixtures (the IPL 2021 was played in Blue jersey) in the IPL. The first game that RCB played in the green jersey was against the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala back in IPL 2011, while the most recent fixture was vs Rajasthan Royals Jaipur last year.

Since the Go Green initiative was introduced in 2011, the Bengaluru-based team has won just five fixtures, with eight defeats and a no-result due to heavy rain. They have won a previous outing in the green kit, with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli scripting a superb 92-run opening stand, before Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed an unbeaten 40.
Over the years, no Indian has ever won a Player of the Match award in the special fixtures. Chris Gayle (2011), AB de Villiers (2016), Wanindu Hasaranga (2022), Glenn Maxwell (2023) and Phil Salt (2025) have been the only RCB players to win the prestigious awards while donning green.
Moreover, RCB has just played one away fixture during their Green Initiative games - against KKR in Kolkata in IPL 2024, which went down to the wire.
The Knight Riders had put 222 runs on the board, with Salt scoring a 14-ball 48 and Shreyas Iyer hitting 50. Later, Will Jacks (55) and Rajat Patidar (52) made the chase interesting; while Karn Sharma's three sixes off Mitchell Starc in the last over made it a nail-biter, but they lost it by one run.
What is the cause behind Go Green initiative?
With 74 games per season in the IPL, the league, on average, generates an estimated 750,000 to 900,000 tonnes of CO2e (Carbon Dioxide Equivalent), which is seriously harmful to the environment amid the rise in global warming.
To negate that, the league, with TATA group's association, had introduced planting 500 trees per dot ball bowled during the IPL Playoffs and Final from the 2023 season.
Meanwhile, the RCB franchise has been doing their bit to reduce the footprints, at least in one game every season. Moreover, the M. Chinnaswamy has waste management systems, with detailed monitoring and audits of segregation practices.
“Achieving carbon-neutral status as a T20 franchise is the result of years of dedicated work. The green jerseys reflect this commitment, and we hope this initiative inspires our fans and stakeholders to embrace more responsible and sustainable practices," CEO Rajesh Menon said in a release by the RCB.
How has RCB fared in IPL 2026?
The defending champions are playing with just one mission: To defend their title. Under Rajat Patidar, RCB is playing like a boss team with every dice rolled as a masterstroke. Although they had some injuries, Josh Hazlewood's return has resolved that issue as well.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru's batters are in some serious form, with Patidar and Virat Kohli leading the run-getters' charts.
Having said that, they faced a hiccup when Rajasthan caught them off guard, but RCB has lost no game before or after that assault led by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in Guwahati.
