Bangladesh, as claimed by captain Najumul Hossain Shanto, enjoyed their biggest-ever Test victory a few days ago in Australia. To make their return to Australian soil memorable after 23 years, they won by nine wickets in Darwin during the 1st match of the two-match series.

The second Test will between the two sides will get underway on August 23 at Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay, with Bangladesh eyeing to repeat the unthinkable yet again.

Openers & Top-Order: Tanzid Hasan, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque

Tanzid Hasan made 101 and 0 – a rare feat which cricket fans don’t often see – across two innings in the first Test between Australia and Bangladesh. He was doubtful for BAN vs AUS 2nd Test earlier due to nick stiffness in training session.

However, as things stand, Tanzid should be fit to play Bangladesh vs Australia 2nd Test, as mentioned by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in the pre-match press conference later on.

Shadman Islam had a paltry 20 while coming to open the innings for Bangladesh in the first innings. Nevertheless, his unbeaten 25 in the second innings should be enough for him to keep his place.

Mominul Haque, one of the finest ever batters for Bangladesh in Tests, scored 49 and an unbeaten 30 in the 1st Test. Overall, he also averages 46.33 in Tests against Australia, with no score less than 25 after four innings.

Middle-Order, Wicket-Keeper & All-Rounder: Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das (WK), Mehidy Hasan Miraz

Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh’s Test captain, made a stunning 84 off just 126 balls in his only innings in Australia in this format. He would like to keep on the momentum going with an aim to lead by example.

Mushfiqur Rahim, the most experienced player in this Bangladesh set-up, had a finger injury in the nets ahead of BAN vs AUS 2nd Test. However, just like Tanzid, the 39-year-old should be fit to play in Mackay, and could be his last international outing in this country.

Litton Das, coming to bat at No. 6, had a 12-ball duck in the first Test. However, despite Jaker Ali being there as cover, he, in all likelihood, will be given at least one more chance to prove himself in front of the whole world.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz might be promoted to No. 6, especially after a gritty 154-ball 65. He did exceptionally well with the ball as well, taking five wickets in the second innings. The move would lead Litton to bat at No. 7.

Bowlers: Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain

Taijul Islam, despite taking only one wicket in the first Test, is expected to be retained. He is at the top of Bangladesh’s all-time wicket-takers list for Tests, and there is little doubt that the 34-year-old will keep his place in Bangladesh’s playing XI vs Australia for the 2nd Test.

Hasan Mahmud, the well-celebrated hero for Bangladesh after spectacular heroics in Darwin, will lead the attack once again.

Taskin Ahmed, the most experienced fast bowler in the squad, will continue to support Mahmud as he did in the last match. In fact, he would like to be the main man of the attack to justify his LPL withdrawal move

Ebadot Hossain was equally supportive to Mahmud, just like Taskin last time around. This means Shoriful Islam, despite the fact that he is available for selection, might have to be sidelined once again.
