Sri Lanka and India will face each other once again, this time in Colombo for the second Test of the two-match Test series from August 23 onwards. They met recently in Galle, where India secured 165-run victory over Sri Lanka, with Devdutt Padikkal winning the Player of the Match award.
Historically, Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club significantly helps the spinners, and becomes slow and sluggish as the game progresses. However, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is planning to do otherwise with the Colombo pitch, keeping in mind that what happened in Galle.
SLC To Turn Typical Colombo Pitch Into Balanced Surface
As the Galle pitch produced a well-balanced surface for both batters and bowlers during the first Test between India and Sri Lanka, the SLC, as reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI), are planning to keep the same mantra, which simultaneously will twist the traditional Colombo pitch.
A SLC official highlighted that they are not having some of their best batters in the ongoing series, and the approach will be predominantly due to that reason.
At this moment, the thinking is for a well-balanced pitch like the one you saw at Galle. Sri Lanka are also without some experienced players like Chandi (Dinesh Chandimal), Kusal (Mendis) and (Pathum) Nissanka. So, we need to give our young batters a chance also," a SLC official told PTI.

"Of course, it all depends on what finally the team wants for the match, you know, something that gives them the best chance to win and draw the series," he added.
A Detailed Look At Colombo Pitch
Prior to IND vs SL 2nd Test, there were 46 Tests played at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo. 714 wickets were taken by spinners alone at this venue, where pacers had 623 wickets with the red ball.
Besides, bowlers maintain an economy rate of 2.99 here in Colombo, indicating batters do face hard to score runs here. However, as SLC official confirmed to PTI, it might not be the case when India and Sri Lanka face each other on August 23.
