The T20 World Cup 2026 has once again shown that the game rarely follows predictions. Speaking to NDTV, he didn’t take the usual route to name two big names as he predicted his dream finalists with a twist. Along with his home country, he expressed that he would love to see Zimbabwe playing in the T20 World Cup final.

“I would take India versus anybody. India versus Zimbabwe? That would be great for Zimbabwe cricket. It would be amazing if Zimbabwe can make it. I would love to see one of the lesser teams, alongside India. That would be great,” Dravid said.

Rahul Dravid hails associate teams for making a mark in the T20 World Cup

The T20 World Cup stage is always entertaining, but the ongoing season has been different from others. While the world cheers for the big names, the associate nations have stolen the limelight with exceptional performances. Wins and losses are part of the game, yet these teams have kept fans entertained with their fearless displays.

Just not the team’s performances, some of the individual performances also grabbed the attention. As they pushed the thrills into another level, Rahul Dravid heaped praises on them.

“The defining thing for me of the World Cup so far is something that people have spoken about quite a lot, which has been the fact that a lot of the associate teams have played some fantastic cricket. It is just great to see the kind of talent that we are getting to see in a lot of associate nations. There’s been some really good performances from all across the board,” he said.

Zimbabwe’s T20 World Cup dream is within reach if they maintain their form

As the small nations stunned the world with their sublime success, Zimbabwe’s outstanding performance grabbed the limelight. Placed in Group B, they began their campaign with an eight-wicket win over Oman and shocked the cricketing world by defeating Australia in their second match.

After their clash against Ireland was abandoned, they registered another dominating six-wicket victory against Sri Lanka. With a sublime unbeaten streak, they qualified for the Super Eight stage.

The challenges will be hard as they are placed in Group A along with West Indies, India, and South Africa, who are all unbeaten. In the history of the tournament, Zimbabwe is enjoying a dream run. If they carry the same dominance into the upcoming matches, their T20 World Cup dream could become a reality.
