Since the T20 World Cup 2026 has begun, cricket fans across the globe have experienced some iconic moments, but Australia endured a nightmare campaign that left the fans stunned. After ending their journey with a thrilling victory against Oman, Mitchell Marsh highlighted their mistakes.

Throughout the tournament, they faltered on the big stage and missed some good chances. After the recent win, they might have ended on a positive note, but they still fell short of performing to their true potential.

Marsh echoes Kaif's emotion after T20 World Cup exit

In the ICC tournaments, Australia has always been the giant as the opponent teams fear of facing them on the big stage. But the T20 World Cup 2026 turned out to be forgettable for them. Entering the tournament with injury setbacks, their struggles only worsened as the competition progressed.

Apart from the injury struggle, Australia also struggled with poor form during the tournament. Despite starting the tournament with a sublime victory, they faltered in the middle. They lost some crucial games, and those mistakes made the situation tougher.

After the 2023 ODI World Cup Final, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif gave a bold statement saying, despite the defeat, Team India is the ‘best team on paper.”

Following Australia's win over Oman to end their disappointing T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, captain Mitchell Marsh echoed a similar sentiment. Reflecting on the campaign, Marsh admitted that they had the power to overcome the struggle but they faltered.

“Probably just the sense of a missed opportunity. I don't think conditions were the main issue. In Colombo, it was slow, but we had prepared for that. I still believe we had the squad to get the job done. But in tournament cricket, if you're even slightly off, you can lose a game that puts you on the back foot,” Marsh said.

Marsh opens up on team spirit despite heartbreaking campaign

Australia will remember the T20 World Cup 2026 for the wrong reasons, as they crashed out in the group stage for the first time in 17 years. In the ongoing season, their biggest disappointment was the 23-run defeat against Zimbabwe when their batting lineup collapsed dramatically.

After wrapping up the game, Mitchell Marsh reflected on the devastating dressing room. Highlighting their struggles, he admitted that suffering defeats in crucial fixtures put them under immense pressure and made their situation difficult.

“As I’ve said a few times, it’s a bitterly disappointed change room. Like every team, we built towards this for two years. Unfortunately, in a couple of key games, we just didn’t play our best cricket - and that’s tournament play. You lose a game like the one against Zimbabwe, and suddenly you’re under pressure. Credit to them, they played well, but we’re a very disappointed group right now,” he said.

Australia crush Oman to end campaign on a high note

In the entire tournament, the cricket world missed the trademark Australian domination, but the Aussies brought it back in the clash against Oman. While bowling first, Australia unleashed their lethal bowling attack as Adam Zampa’s four-wicket haul and Maxwell’s economical bowling helped them to restrict Oman to 104 runs.

While chasing down the total, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh’s 93-run opening partnership gave a strong foundation. Even after Head walked away, scoring only 32 runs, Marsh crafted a fiery fifty and guided Australia towards a dominating 9-wicket victory with an unbeaten 64-run knock.
