The West Indies and Sri Lanka will return to international cricket on June 3, as the Caribbeans host Sri Lanka for the first ODI of the series at Sabina Park in Jamaica at 8 PM (IST).

This will be the first time since the end of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup that the teams take the field, and it will also begin their preparation cycle for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.

Ahead of the series, captain Shai Hope returned to the setup to lead the team, alongside Alzarri Joseph, who had been out injured since November 2025. Despite a poor IPL 2026, Shimron Hetmyer has retained his spot in the team but will join them for the final ODI only.

For the visitors, Kusal Mendis has been named as their newest captain in both ODIs and T20Is, with Kamindu Mendis being his deputy. In the all-format tour, Dhananjaya de Silva will be leading the side.

As things stand ahead of the series, Sri Lanka are ranked 6th in ODI cricket, while West Indies find themselves at 10 — outside the top-8 spots, which get the automatic qualification to the World Cup. Hence, it will be a really important series for the Men in Maroon, having already missed the World Cup 2023 in India.
