Several Aussie players could miss IPL 2027 season [Source: AFP]
After 74 gruelling matches, the IPL 2026 season is over with RCB defeating the Gujarat Titans to clinch their second successive championship. The defending champions were the best right from the start of the tournament as they dominated the proceedings and won the contest.
One of their key players en route to the IPL 2026 title win was Josh Hazlewood, who was key for the Royal Challengers in the grand finale. He scalped 2 for 37 against the Titans, and broke their batting backbone by dismissing Shubman Gill.
However, it seems the lanky pacer might have played his last-ever IPL match for RCB, and might not turn up for the marquee event in 2027. In fact, he might not be the only Australian who might be unavailable for IPL 2027.
Why several Australian players could miss IPL 2027 season?
The next year holds utmost importance in the Australian cricket calendar. The Australia-England rivalry will have a new chapter next year as The Ashes will take place in England, right after the IPL season ends.
Apart from The Ashes, there is the 50-overs World Cup, and everyone knows how much weightage the Aussies give to the World Cup. The Ashes and the World Cup hold utmost importance for the Aussies, and the selectors want all their main players to be fresh and injury-free.
Pat Cummins has indirectly hinted that he might not be available for the IPL 2027 season as he wants to prioritise The Ashes and the World Cup. Several other players might follow the same path.
List of Australian players who might not play in IPL 2027
| Australian players | IPL franchises |
| Pat Cummins | SRH |
| Mitch Starc | DC |
| Josh Hazlewood | RCB |
| Travis Head | SRH |
| Cameron Green | KKR |
(Key Australian players and their teams in IPL)
If the above names miss the IPL 2027 season, the Sunrisers Hyderabad would be the one badly affected. Two of their best players, Pat Cummins and Travis Head will feature in The Ashes and the World Cup (if not injured), and looking at Cummins’ recent injury record, Cricket Australia might not want to take any risk next year.

Mitch Starc missed half of the IPL 2026 for the Delhi Capitals due to an injury, and he, too, is an important player for the Australian team across formats. There is a good chance that the franchise might have to look for a replacement next year.
The fourth player on the list is KKR’s Cameron Green. He was the most expensive signing in the IPL 2026 mini auction, but the franchise might have to play without him.
Which franchises get affected if Australian players miss IPL 2027
While most of the IPL sides would lose just a solitary player, SRH will lose two of its best players. Cummins is the captain of the side, and he has been excellent for the Orange Army in the last three seasons. If he is unavailable, the SRH side may have to find a new captain.
Moreover, Travis Head has scored a plethora of runs for them at the top, and if he is not there for the next season, the side might have to delve into the IPL mini auction to get a suitable replacement.
