The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League is in full swing and fast approaching its business end. For the unversed, the IPL 2026 playoff line-up is now complete with the four qualified teams officially confirmed.

After defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Gujarat Titans sealed their playoff spots, the race for the fourth and final spot went down to the wire. Rajasthan Royals eventually clinched the spot after defeating Mumbai Indians in their final league-stage clash.

However, there’s no match today on May 25, 2026. Thus, this article examines the reasons behind the same.

Explaining why there is no IPL match on Monday

There will be no match on Monday, May 25, as the four qualified teams will need some rest before flying to their respective venues to play in the Eliminator and the Qualifiers .

To understand why there’s a break today, it helps to know how the IPL playoffs work. The top four teams from the league stage qualify for the playoffs, which include three crucial matches before the final, including Qualifier 1, the Eliminator, and Qualifier 2.

Qualifier 1 is played between the teams that finish at the top and second on the IPL 2026 points table, in this case, Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The winner of this match gets a direct entry to the final.

Meanwhile, the Eliminator is a do-or-die match between the teams finishing third and fourth, in the current scenario, SRH and RR.

Since these playoff games are high-pressure encounters, the teams are given at least one day to rest and prepare for the next match. That’s why there’s no match today.
