After 2 days of continuous rain, Gqeberha is set for an on-time start for the first time in the 2nd Test. The Proteas are 97/5 even though Josh Hazlewood didn’t take the field on Day 2. For the unversed, the right-arm seamer reported unwell and was absent from proceedings on Day 2.

Hazlewood bowled 5 overs on Day 1 and is yet to take a wicket. The Australian fans are worried about his illness, and they have a positive update to rejoice.

Josh Hazlewood declared fit, but not allowed to bowl

In a significant development, Daniel Chernyl of Code Sports reported that Josh Hazlewood has regained full fitness and has recovered from his illness. It added that the right-arm seamer will take the field on Day 3.

Interestingly, despite taking the field, Hazlewood won’t be allowed to bowl in the first session of Day 3. Notably, he is fit but bound by an ICC law that prohibits him from bowling in the 1st session.

According to the ICC, a player has to spend an equal number of minutes on the field that he or she spent outside the field. Therefore, Hazlewood will have to field the entire first session to compensate for the time he was outside the field on Day 2.

Josh Hazlewood Australia’s Star Bowler In 1st Test

Josh Hazlewood was Australia’s star bowler in the 1st Test as he took 8 wickets in the match, which includes a six-wicket haul in the 2nd innings. The right-arm seamer breathed fire, which helped the Baggy Greens clinch a 214 runs win and lead the three-match series 1-0.

Fortunately for Australia, they didn’t miss Josh Hazlewood on day 2 of the 2nd Test because Scott Boland took the charge in his absence. The right-arm seamer, who replaced Nathan Lyon in the playing XI, has picked up 4 wickets.

Scott Boland drew the first blood for Australia when he rattled Aiden Markram’s furnititure, followed by a wicket on the very next delivery.
