The Asia Cup 2025 controversy is still not over, and the drama continues even months after India won the tournament. Surprisingly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has still not physically received the Asia Cup trophy.

The issue began after India refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi during the presentation ceremony.

Normally, Suryakumar Yadav was expected to receive the trophy after India’s five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final in Dubai on September 28.

However, the Men in Blue had decided not to shake hands with the Pakistan players throughout the tournament.

This was done as a mark of protest against the Pahalgam terror attack and in support of Operation Sindoor. India also refused to take the trophy from Naqvi, who is not only the ACC chairman but also Pakistan’s Interior Minister.

Later, reports claimed that Mohsin Naqvi took the trophy back to his hotel before keeping it locked at the ACC headquarters in Dubai. According to reports, the trophy cannot be moved or handed over without the chairman’s approval.

Since then, the BCCI has reportedly held several discussions with Mohsin Naqvi and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over the matter. The issue was even raised at the International Cricket Council (ICC) level, but there has still been no final solution.

BCCI Gives Latest Update On Asia Cup Trophy

Now, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has shared the latest update. Speaking to PTI, he said that the BCCI has repeatedly requested the ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi and its directors to hand over the trophy. However, no response has been received so far.

“As far as the Asia Cup Trophy is concerned, we have requested the Asian Cricket Council chairman and directors to hand over the trophy. But there has been no response yet,” Shukla said.

He added that although India have not received the trophy, everyone knows that India won the tournament and the board is still trying to get the silverware.

"We have spoken to them, but what difference does it make if we don't hand over the trophy? The world knows that we have won there. But we have not received the trophy yet. We are trying to get it. We have won,” Shukla added.

Despite this, the Indian team celebrated its Asia Cup triumph by posing with an invisible trophy.

Meanwhile, India have achieved even greater success since then. After winning the Asia Cup, the Men in Blue went on to lift the T20 World Cup 2026, making history by winning back-to-back ICC T20 World Cup titles.
