Rishabh Pant Hypes Up LSG Despite Defeat [Source: AFP]
In the 64th match of the IPL 2026 season, LSG lost to RR at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. However, despite the defeat, Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant hyped up the team using a curse word.
The match was perfect entertainment for the crowd. Batting first, LSG posted 220 runs on the board, which looked like a par total. However, Rajasthan Royals’ pocket dynamite, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, took the game away in the chase.
Rishabh Pant makes bizarre statement after LSG loss
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 93 off just 38 balls to guide Rajasthan Royals to a comfortable 7-wicket victory. That marked LSG’s ninth loss of the season as they continue to hold the bottom place of the IPL 2026 points table.
However, despite the crushing defeat, LSG captain Rishabh Pant was defiant. In a post-match interview, he said that, irrespective of results, he is proud of the effort and firmly believes that the squad is good.
“[On the team's performance this season] We are proud of the team, regardless of how the situation is. Regardless of the table, we are confident in the team. That doesn't take away the fact that we are fu**ing good team."
Normally, emotional dressing-room style comments are appreciated when a team is fighting well, narrowly losing despite strong performances or showing consistency.

But LSG have struggled throughout IPL 2026. Rishabh Pant himself has been under pressure for poor form and leadership, and the team has repeatedly collapsed in crunch moments.
Hence, this statement at this stage of the tournament, where they have already been eliminated from the playoffs, sounds delusional, tone-deaf and an attempt to avoid accountability.
Pant again repeated the ‘too many minds’ statement
Meanwhile, further in his interview, Rishabh Pant said LSG underachieved despite reaching 220, as they were aiming for more. He specifically praised Jofra Archer because he controlled the death overs and prevented LSG from getting to something like 230-235.
"[What did you make of the score at the halfway point?] The way Archer bowled, it was really good. We could have actually scored more. On this wicket, we could have scored 5 or 10 runs more and we couldn't capitalize in the last over," Pant added.
Also, Pant said that tactical decisions related to bowling changes and plans were overcomplicated. He said too many minds were at work while the bowlers needed a simple plan to execute.
"[How difficult is it to come up with different bowling plans?] It's definitely difficult one. On a wicket like this, it's a small margin for error. Too many minds don't work. You have to keep a simple plan and try and execute it."
Notably, Rishabh Pant had previously given a similar statement, which suggested that he is having a tactical clash with the LSG management and could be frustrated due to the over-interference of the coaching staff.
RR qualification scenario for IPL 2026 playoffs
Meanwhile, the loss didn’t affect LSG much, as they had nothing to lose. Seated at the bottom of the table, Lucknow are already out of the playoff race for this IPL 2026 season.
However, for RR, the victory was crucial. After chasing down 221 in Jaipur, RR moved to 14 points from 13 matches and climbed back into the top-four race. The equation is now simple for them.
If they beat MI, the Rajasthan Royals will finish on 16 points and are very likely to qualify for the playoffs regardless of other results. That would eliminate pressure from CSK, DC and PBKS because none of those teams are strongly positioned to comfortably cross RR if Rajasthan win their final game.
However, if RR drop their last game against MI, then things could get complicated as other results and NRR will come into play.
