Like father, like son. That is what at least Aaryavir Sehwag can be patted on with on the back after he pulled off a move that exactly winded back the clock to the playing days of his father and former Indian opener Virender Sehwag.

While playing the DPL 2026 match for his team West Delhi Lions, Aaryavir’s shot selection left the spectators in awe as it reflected what Sehwag previously was known for. The 18-year-old opened for his team in a chase that his team successfully completed to win the match against New Delhi Tigers comfortably.

Aaryavir Sehwag Plays Exquisite Shot Exactly Like Father Virender Sehwag

While opening with Krish Yadav, Aaryavir Sehwag started off on a decent note. Sehwag began hammering the bowlers from the second over, with Dhrvv Bindra bearing the brunt as the youngster smashed two boundaries in the same over.

Sehwag's magnificent strike, which copied his father's signature style, came in the fourth over when Bindra once again bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside the off stump at 121.7 kph.

Aaryavir Sehwag stood tall on his toes and hammered a back-foot drive while holding his pose. As he played the magnificent shot, the ball went between point and cover and raced away to the boundary.

The shot was reminiscent of Virender Sehwag, Aaryavir's father, who was known for his powerful back-foot shots. The back-foot punch was, in fact, one of the former cricketer's most recognisable shots.

If viewed frame by frame, Aaryavir Sehwag's shot looked almost identical to the ones Virender Sehwag used to play during his early days. This comes as little surprise, considering Virender himself has often taken up the responsibility of teaching his son different shots in the nets, further strengthening their father-son bond.

Aaryavir's Journey To Cricket

Aaryavir, born in 2007, is the eldest son of Virender Sehwag. Growing up, Aaryavir spent his childhood surrounded by cricket. He steadily rose through the junior ranks while representing Delhi's age-group teams and also developed a reputation, much like his father, as a fearless top-order batter who loves to take on the bowling attack from the very first ball.

Aaryavir grabbed eyeballs during an Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match, where he represented Delhi against Meghalaya and hammered 297 runs from just 309 deliveries. His innings included 51 fours and three sixes as he fell just three runs short of a triple century.

How Did Aaryavir Sehwag Fare In DPL So Far?

Aaryavir's exploits in the DPL, however, haven't been quite as illustrious. He made his debut in 2025 for Central Delhi Kings and played just two matches, returning scores of 22 and 1.

This match against New Delhi Tigers on August 20 was his first appearance of the season, and he scored 22 runs off 14 deliveries at a strike rate of 157.14.

Whether further opportunities will come his way through his captain Nitish Rana, to impress the world like his father, in the playing XI remains to be seen in the upcoming days of the tournament.
