The UP T20 2026 match between Meerut Mavericks and Lucknow Falcons saw an unshackled Rinku Singh, who smacked his way to a 23-ball 50 to help his team win a massive chase amid a rain interrupted play.
The match took place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on August 19, with Rinku Singh's Meerut Mavericks winning the game by five runs after heroics from their captain, who came in to bat at No. 6.
Rinku Singh Unleashes IPL Mode to Lead Team's Win
The Lucknow Falcons posted a total of 183 runs on the board after losing six wickets in their 20 overs, as the Meerut Mavericks came out to chase the target.
The challenge became difficult as Meerut lost four wickets inside the first 10 overs, leaving them reeling at 74 runs. The openers were dismissed quickly within the first two overs, and the top order soon fell apart, with Rinku coming out to bat after Divyansh Joshi's wicket.
It was only Divyansh Joshi and Divyansh Rajput who managed to put together a stable 52-run partnership before Rinku arrived. Soon after his arrival, the KKR star picked up the pace with the bat and started going hammer and tongs to keep the chase alive.
Immediately after stepping onto the crease, Rinku took on Abhinandan Singh, smashing consecutive sixes and boundaries. However, wickets kept tumbling at the other end.

Navneet Kumar was also bludgeoned by Rinku Singh as he completed his 50 off just 23 deliveries, hammering the bowler for boundaries in the first, third, and fourth deliveries of the over.
However, the rain soon came down, with its intensity increasing rapidly. At that moment, the Meerut Mavericks were 154/6 and still needed 30 runs from 19 balls.
Rinku Saves Chase With Lone Stand
Rinku Singh had kept the fight alive when Meerut needed 78 runs from just six overs. Rinku saved the day with a passionate fightback before the rain intensified and the umpires eventually declared Meerut Mavericks the winners by five runs via the DLS method.
Rinku finished the innings with 55 runs off 24 deliveries, hammering six sixes and two boundaries at a strike rate of 229.17.
The KKR star's innings was reminiscent of his famous five-consecutive-sixes knock against Gujarat Titans in April 2023, when he chased down 29 runs in the final over against Yash Dayal in Ahmedabad.

This carnage from Rinku once again reminded everyone of his abilities as a finisher and lower-middle-order batter with specialist batting skills. As the batter closed the gap with the DLS par score, his UPT20 2026 exploits against the Lucknow Falcons will remain one of the most heroic innings of his career. So far in the league, he has managed an average of 54.00 while striking at 189.47.
Why Is Rinku Singh Important as a Finisher?
Since IPL 2023, it has been almost universally established that Rinku is a solid finisher with the bat. Although he averaged 59.00 in IPL 2026, with flashes of superb knocks such as 53, 83, and 49, he hasn't been as consistent as he was in 2023.
However, this could be partly due to the batting positions he has been experimented with at Kolkata Knight Riders. Nevertheless, he remains a vital cog for the IPL franchise as well as the Indian cricket team, who rely on him to finish games whenever the pressure mounts.
His expertise in the lower middle order helps teams ease the pressure during a chase, particularly in difficult situations, much like what he did for the Meerut Mavericks as their captain.
Interestingly, Rinku Singh has won 34 matches out of the 54 he has played in T20 cricket while chasing, giving him a success rate of almost 62.96%. In the second innings, Rinku has averaged 33.04 across 94 T20 matches and strikes at 139.44, while also having eight half-centuries in the process.
These numbers further underline why he remains such a valuable addition to the team, particularly when the responsibility of finishing a chase falls on his shoulders.
