Kohli Recreates Angry MS Dhoni IPL Moment (Source: Screengrab from Jiostar)
Almost every IPL 2026 game has witnessed one or two controversial moments, and the same was the case during the GT Vs RCB IPL match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The defending champions, RCB were put into bat, and it was the Virat Kohli show as the RCB opener took down the opposition with ease.
However, after a fiery start, Kohli was dismissed as he had laid a strong platform for his middle-order batters. Rajat Patidar tried to consolidate RCB’s innings alongside Devdutt Padikkal, and during the eighth over of the game, a huge controversy occurred.
Kohli argues with umpire as Holder takes catch of the tournament contender
Arshad Khan bowled a brilliantly disguised short of a length ball as Patidar was hurried up in his attempted pull shot. The ball took a top-edge as Jason Holder from deep square leg ran to his right, as he sprinted quickly and puts in a dive to take a sharp catch.
There was some confusion as to whether Holder grabbed that ball with control, and though the on-field umpires gave Patidar out, he was a bit reluctant to walk away.

Patidar was sure that Holder had not grabbed the catch cleanly, and Kohli joined the discussion as he had an animated chat with the umpire, and he, too, looked dissatisfied with the decision.
This was almost the recreation of the famous MS Dhoni moment, when the former CSK captain was furious with the umpire in the 2019 edition, and he stormed onto the pitch to have a confrontation.

Was Kohli right in arguing with the umpire?
When Holder put in a dive to take a stunner to dismiss Patidar, there were doubts that whether the GT fielder had taken the catch cleanly or not. The fielder was clearly away from the ropes, but the doubt was whether the ball touched the ground or not.
The umpires instantly gave Patidar out, and this infuriated Kohli who had a mini argument with the umpire, but eventually, he was proven wrong as the catch was taken cleanly by Holder.
Showing dissatisfaction towards the umpiring decision can also lead to punishment for Kohli as the RCB opener could be fined by the governing body.
RCB crumble after Kohli's fiery start
It was Kohli vs Rabada in the power play, and the RCB batter won the opening bout as he took down the GT bowler with utmost ease. In his first over, the right-handed batter smoked five boundaries in a row to make his intentions clear.
However, Rabada had the last laugh as he dismissed Kohli in his next over. Once the experienced batter departed, RCB crumbled like a pack of cards as the tem lost a flurry of wickets.
From 79/3 to 126/8, the side lost 5 wickets in no time as the management had to sent in Venkatesh Iyer as the impact player in the first innings itself.
