The India vs Sri Lanka second Test ended in a draw after lower middle-order batter and all-rounder Sonal Dinusha produced a heroic batting performance, frustrating the Indian side after they enforced the follow-on on the hosts in Colombo.
However, one of the highlights from the closing stages of the match was a six conceded by skipper Shubman Gill after he decided to bowl the 150th over.
Sonal Dinusha punished Gill for his decision to try his hand at bowling in international cricket, and the six did not appear to go down well with India head coach Gautam Gambhir in the dressing room.
Shubman Gill gets punished with a massive six from Sonal Dinusha
As Gill came on to bowl the 150th over, Sonal Dinusha was on strike with 115 runs from 250 deliveries. Gill, with his off-spin, perhaps wanted to try his hand with the ball during the closing stages of the match. However, as he bowled his first delivery to Dinusha, the batter smacked it into the stands.
Coming around the wicket, Gill pitched a short delivery around the off and middle stump. The resilient all-rounder went onto the back foot and unleashed a pull shot over deep mid-wicket to produce a towering six.
It was an expected result against a part-time, inexperienced bowler like Shubman Gill, and Dinusha too appeared to enjoy taking on the Indian skipper with his very first delivery. The rest of the over, though, went in Gill's favour, with only one run coming from the remaining five deliveries. Dinusha ended the over on 122 runs.

Gautam Gambhir angrily stares at Gill after six
Notably, Gautam Gambhir, the India head coach, was also left surprised after Gill came on to bowl and was immediately hit for a six.
Gambhir was caught on camera staring angrily towards the field, while batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, who was sitting beside him, appeared to be explaining something to him.

Nevertheless, Gambhir's apparent frustration did not translate into any reaction on the field, as Gill finished the over having conceded seven runs.
At 4:37 PM IST, after three more overs, both teams decided to call off the game and settle for a draw. Sri Lanka finished with 429 runs on the board, with Sonal Dinusha and Asitha Fernando remaining unbeaten at the crease.
Why did Shubman Gill choose to bowl?
After Dinusha's magnificent batting performance and the resistance shown by Sri Lanka's lower order, it had become evident that the match would end in a draw. With little chance of India forcing a result on the fifth day after Sri Lanka's fightback following the follow-on, Gill decided to give himself an opportunity with the ball.
Hence, during the 150th over, with Sri Lanka on 411 and holding a healthy lead, Shubman Gill decided to try his hand with the ball.
For the unaware, Gill had bowled only seven deliveries in Test cricket. In ODIs, he had delivered 18 balls and remained wicketless in his international career.
Soon after Gill's over, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel also tried their hand at bowling. While Jurel remained economical, Jaiswal was punished for two boundaries by Dinusha before the Indian skipper returned to bowl his second over to the Sri Lankan batters.
