In a major setback for the newly rebranded Pindiz franchise, one of their leading fast bowlers has suffered a serious injury during the ongoing National T20 Cup 2026. As a result, uncertainty has emerged regarding his availability for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL 2026).

Notably, the development comes only two weeks before the start of the tournament, which is scheduled to begin on March 28. Therefore, the timing of the incident has raised concerns within the Pindiz camp.

Moreover, the team is scheduled to open its campaign on March 28 against Peshawar Zalmi at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in a day fixture. Consequently, team management is now closely monitoring the situation as the start of the competition approaches.

Major injury concern before PSL

Notably, the injured pacer is none other than Zaman Khan, who has emerged as one of Pakistan’s promising T20 bowlers in recent years. His injury occurred during a match in the National T20 Cup while attempting to stop a boundary.

During the fielding effort, the fast bowler dived toward the ball in an attempt to prevent runs. However, he landed awkwardly and immediately experienced severe discomfort in his arm. As a result, he had to leave the field for medical attention.

Subsequent assessments confirmed that the pacer had suffered a fracture, which has raised serious concerns regarding his participation in the remaining domestic matches and the upcoming PSL season.

Furthermore, according to a press release issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on March 14,

"Fast bowler Zaman Khan sustained a dislocation of Acromioclavicular Joint (ACJ) on his right shoulder while fielding during the Faisalabad v Peshawar fixture in the ongoing National T20 Cup in Peshawar," the PCB said in the statement.

"He will report to the National Cricket Academy, Lahore on 14 March and in consultation with the PCB Medical team the further course of action regarding his recovery and rehabilitation programme will be charted," further added.

Impact on Pindiz’s PSL 2026 plans

Meanwhile, it is important to note that the Pindiz had retained Zaman Khan in the Gold category. Therefore, his absence could significantly impact the team’s bowling plans for the tournament.

Over the course of his T20 career, Zaman Khan has played 120 matches and scalped 142 wickets with an economy rate of 8.60. In addition, he gained valuable franchise experience in the Big Bash League (BBL 2025-26) when he represented the Brisbane Heat as a replacement for Shaheen Afridi.

Rawalpindi officially renamed as Pindiz

At the same time, the Rawalpindi-based franchise recently entered a new era after being officially renamed Pindiz. The team was acquired by Walee Technologies for Rs 2.45 billion.

Previously, the franchise experienced a period of transition after former owner Ali Tareen chose not to renew the ownership agreement following PSL season 10. Consequently, the PCB temporarily managed the franchise while exploring long-term ownership options.

Eventually, Walee Technologies emerged as the winning bidder in a competitive auction process. Under PSL regulations, new owners are allowed to rebrand their franchises. Therefore, company owner Ahsan Tahir aligned the team’s identity with Rawalpindi’s vibrant street culture, leading to the creation of the Pindiz brand.

With a new name, ownership structure, and identity, the franchise is aiming to reset expectations and make an immediate impact in PSL 11.
