Babette de Leede came as Netherlands captain in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. On Sunday, they came to play their first-ever match in the competition’s history, and the opposition was Bangladesh. It was Match 5 of the ongoing edition at dgbaston, Birmingham.
The 26-year-old led by example while coming to bat against Bangladesh. She made 50 off 45 balls, which had five fours before losing her wicket in an unfortunate run-out.
In between, de Leede played a delicious ramp shot, and fans reminded of Jos Buttler, who plays it as his signature shot.
Babette De Leede Makes Jos Buttler Proud
While facing Marufa Akter during the 12nd over of the Netherlands innings, de Leede walked across the stumps, just how Buttler often does.
Then she got under it to play the ramp shot with perfection, and the ball went well over the keeper for four runs.
Moreover, Babette de Leede became the eighth woman who had 50 or more scores in T20 World Cup debut.

Riding on Babette de Leede’s half-century, the Netherlands finished with 139/8 on the board. For Bangladesh, Fariha Trisna, Marufa Akter, Shanjida Akter Meghla, Rabeya Khan and Ritu Moni all picked up at least a wicket.
Coming to chase, Bangladesh are 7/0 in 1.5 overs at the time of writing. If the Netherlands manage to win, that would be historic, given that it is their first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup match.
The Netherlands are placed in Group A, along with India, Australia, Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh. Safe to say, there is little expectations from their end, as they would rather wish to avoid humiliating defeats.
