With less than a month left for the start of the IPL 2026, preparations are in full swing at the CSK camp. The five-time champions have begun their pre-season training at their High Performance Centre in Navalur, Chennai. 

While the focus remains on intense preparation, a light-hearted moment involving MS Dhoni and Sarfaraz Khan has taken social media by storm.

During a football warm-up session, Sarfaraz Khan made a funny error by accidentally picking up the ball with his hands. The moment instantly caught MS Dhoni’s attention. 

The former CSK skipper responded with a slow, sarcastic clap and burst into laughter. His reaction left the rest of the players in splits.

Sarfaraz Khan gets fresh start with CSK

For Sarfaraz Khan, this IPL 2026 season represents a new beginning. After going unsold in the 2024 and 2025 auctions, the talented batter was picked up by CSK for his base price of INR 75 lakh in the 2026 mini-auction. 

The franchise showed faith in Sarfaraz Khan's consistent domestic performances and gave him an opportunity to prove himself on the big stage.

Sarfaraz has been actively participating in training sessions and appears determined to make the most of this chance.

It is also worth noting that the franchise made headlines in the trade window earlier, securing Sanju Samson from the Rajasthan Royals in a major move.

In exchange, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran were traded to the RR for IPL 2026.

CSK begin preparations under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership

The 2026 season is shaping up to be a crucial one for CSK. Since winning their fifth IPL title in 2023 under MS Dhoni's leadership, the franchise has endured two forgettable seasons. In 2024, CSK narrowly missed the playoffs, and in 2025, they finished bottom of the table with just 4 wins.

This year, the team is undergoing a transition phase. Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue to lead the side, while MS Dhoni returns as a senior player. Despite being 44 years old, MS Dhoni’s fitness and commitment continue to inspire all. 

Visuals from the training camp showed MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad batting in adjacent nets.

The camp currently includes players such as Ayush Mhatre, Mukesh Choudhary, Rahul Chahar, Urvil Patel, Ramakrishna Ghosh, Prashant Veer, and Sarfaraz Khan. 

The overseas players are expected to join later this month. Head coach Stephen Fleming and bowling coach Eric Simons are also set to arrive in Chennai soon to oversee preparations.

CSK management is leaving no stone unturned as they aim to bounce back strongly in IPL 2026.
