The match was played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Friday, and while the game itself was intense, a reaction from Hardik’s son, Agastya Pandya, quickly went viral.
Abhishek Sharma continued to struggle
England won the toss and opted to bowl first. As a result, India came out to bat and put up an impressive performance with the bat. However, the innings did not begin perfectly. Abhishek Sharma continued to struggle in the tournament and was dismissed for just nine runs.
Despite the early setback, Sanju Samson played an outstanding innings. He scored a brilliant 89 runs and helped stabilize the Indian batting lineup. At the same time, Ishan Kishan also contributed significantly by scoring 39 runs.
However, India lost another wicket when Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for 11 runs. After his wicket, Hardik Pandya walked in to bat at number six. Soon after, he partnered with Shivam Dube.

Notably, Hardik Pandya played a quick cameo to provide the finishing touches to India’s innings. However, his stay at the crease ended dramatically in the final over.
During a delivery from Will Jacks, Pandya flicked a low full toss toward the leg side and completed the first run comfortably. He attempted to return for a second run, but the fielding side reacted quickly.
A sharp and accurate throw from Jacob Bethell reached the striker’s end, where Jos Buttler broke the stumps. After reviewing the replay, it was confirmed that Pandya was short of the crease, and he was declared run out.
Notably, when Hardik Pandya was dismissed, Agastya appeared visibly upset. As the cameras panned toward the stands, the young boy looked angry and disappointed after seeing his father walk back to the pavilion. His reaction showed how emotionally invested he was in the match.
It is important note that Agastya was present at the stadium along with Hardik Pandya’s girlfriend, Mahieka Sharma, to watch the important semifinal clash.

India post a massive total against England
Even after Pandya’s dismissal, India finished with a massive total of 253 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. This score became the fourth-highest team total in the history of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Additionally, it was the second time India crossed the 250-run mark in the 2026 edition of the tournament. Earlier in the competition, they had achieved a similar feat against Zimbabwe during the Super 8 stage.
England’s strong fightback
While chasing the huge target, England gave India a tough fight. Their batters kept the pressure on throughout the innings and came very close to completing the chase.
The highlight of England’s innings was a sensational knock by Jacob Bethell. He scored 105 runs from just 48 balls, hitting eight fours and seven sixes. His powerful batting almost helped England reach the target. However, despite his efforts, England eventually finished with 246 runs for seven wickets in their 20 overs, falling just short of victory.
With this thrilling win, India made history by becoming the first defending champions to reach the final of the T20 World Cup. The team will now face New Zealand in the final match.
