India are all set to face England in the semifinal of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The much-awaited match will take place at the famous Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5. This is a massive game for both teams, and as a result, fans are eagerly waiting to see India’s final playing XI.
India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, reached the semifinals after a dominant win over West Indies. Their Super 8 journey started with a loss against South Africa. However, they recovered strongly in the following matches and secured their place in the last four. In the other semifinal, South Africa will face New Zealand at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
It is important to note that India are now in a must-win situation. Therefore, the team management may look at a few tactical adjustments ahead of this important clash. Let us take a look at how India could line up against England.
India Predicted Playing XI Vs England- T20 World Cup 2026
Openers and Top order: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan
India appear to have found the right opening pair for this tournament. The inclusion of Sanju Samson at the top has delivered positive results. Sanju Samson has opened alongside Abhishek Sharma, and together they have provided steady starts.
In the last match against West Indies, the Kerala batter played an outstanding innings of 97* runs off 50 balls. As a result, his spot in the team looks secure.
On the other hand, Abhishek Sharma is still searching for his best form. The Punjab batter scored only 10 runs in the last game. Even so, the team is likely to continue backing him and give him another opportunity to make an impact.
At number three, Ishan Kishan is expected to continue. Notably, Ishan has been India’s top run-scorer in the tournament so far.
Although Ishan Kishan scored just 10 runs in the last match, he has shown good form overall. Therefore, he will be responsible for maintaining stability while also keeping the scoreboard moving.

Middle order and all-rounders: Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel
The middle order will play a key role in this high-pressure semifinal. Notably, captain Suryakumar Yadav started the tournament strongly with an impressive 84-run knock against the USA.
However, after that strong start, Suryakumar has not been at his very best. Even though SKY has scored 147 runs in six innings, he has looked slightly out of touch. Still, as captain and senior batter, he will need to step up in this important match.
Along with Suryakumar, India have several flexible batting options. Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, and Axar Patel can move up or down the order depending on the match situation.
For example, if India need quick runs in the middle overs, Tilak Varma or Hardik Pandya can be sent earlier to increase the scoring rate.
On the contrary, if early wickets fall and the team requires stability, Axar Patel can be promoted to steady the innings. Recently, Tilak Varma has contributed with short yet impactful innings when the team needed acceleration. Hence, his role could once again prove vital.
Bowlers: Varun Chakravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah
In the bowling department, there are a few areas of concern. Varun Chakravarthy has not delivered his best performances in the Super 8 stage. Notably, Chakravarthy picked up one wicket while conceding 40 runs against West Indies.
Similarly, Chakravarthy took one wicket for 35 runs against Zimbabwe. Because of these performances, the team management might consider bringing in Kuldeep Yadav as a replacement.
However, since this is a semifinal, India might avoid making big changes. At such a crucial stage, teams usually prefer experience and stability rather than experimenting.
Meanwhile, the pace attack looks strong. Jasprit Bumrah has returned to good form and delivered a solid performance in the previous match. Bumrah will lead the bowling attack once again.
Alongside him, Arshdeep Singh has also bowled impressively during the Super 8 stage. Together, they will be responsible for controlling England’s powerful batting lineup.
India predicted playing XI Vs West Indies- Sanju Samson (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav(c), Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy
