Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a strong case for himself amidst his forced exile from the Indian cricket team. Having fallen out of national contention, the seasoned Indian fast bowler decimated the Meerut Mavericks in the first qualifier of the UP T20 2026 season.

Leading the Lucknow Falcons team, the cricketer picked up sensational bowling figures of 4-10 from his four overs to maintain an economy rate of just 2.50. Kumar’s spell restricted the Mavericks to just 98-8 in 20 overs as the Falcons sealed a comprehensive win by 47 runs.

Lucknow Falcons batted first and bundled out for just 145 in 19.4 overs in the first qualifier of the UP T20 2026 season. Defending 146 runs for a win at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on September 3, Falcons skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar shared the new ball with Abhinandan Singh.

The seasoned Indian speedster started off his spell by picking up two wickets in the opening over of the Mavericks innings, including that of Rituraj Sharma for a first-ball duck.

The 36-year-old also dismissed Divyansh Rajput and Divyansh Joshi over his next two overs to reduce the Mavericks to 16-5 inside the first five overs.

Bhuvneshwar eventually concluded his four-over spell with impressive figures of 4-10. His spell helped Lucknow Falcons restrict the Mavericks to just 98-8, with captain Rinku Singh top-scoring for his side through his mere 34-run knock from 40 balls.

With Lucknow Falcons winning the qualifier by 47 runs, they have now reached the final of the UP T20 2026 season, set to be played on September 6 this weekend at the same venue.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar knocks on selection doors with match-winning spell

Bhuvneshwar Kumar continues to knock on selection doors with his impressive outings in T20 cricket. Following his match-winning spell against the Meerut Mavericks in the quarterfinal of the 2026 UP T20 season, the cricketer has so far picked up 13 wickets in just 10 innings of the tournament at an impressive bowling average of 15.38.

Among all bowlers with over 10 wickets this season, Kumar’s economy rate of 5.88 marks the best by a landslide.

Even in this year’s high-scoring IPL 2026 season, the 36-year-old emerged as one of the best bowlers of the competition. He snared 28 wickets in 16 innings for the title-winning RCB franchise at an average of 17.89.

The legendary fast bowler also scalped 17 sticks last year to have starred in RCB’s successive IPL wins, having claimed a combined haul of 45 wickets for the franchise across both seasons in 30 innings.

When was the last time Bhuvneshwar Kumar played for India?

Bhuvneshwar Kumar last played any form of international cricket for Team India way back in November 2022 during a T20I series in New Zealand.

Having gone nearly four years without playing a match for India, the seasoned warhorse has been returning with impressive numbers in local tournaments and IPL cricket.

Overall, Kumar has harvested 294 wickets for India across all formats, including 141 in just 121 ODI innings and 63 in 21 Test matches.
