India’s grip on global white-ball cricket was further strengthened on Wednesday, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded hosting rights for the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy to the nation.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be hosted by Sri Lanka, but the ICC moved the event to India due to government interference in the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Thus, the latest allotment continues India’s dominance as the epicentre of the game’s biggest white-ball events. The country successfully staged the Men’s ODI World Cup in 2023 and the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025, and is also scheduled to host the 2029 Men’s Champions Trophy.

That being said, in this article, let’s take a look at the hosts for major upcoming men’s and women’s ICC events, from 2027 to 2031.  

ICC Men’s & Women’s Senior Event Hosts From 2027 To 2031

The apex body of global cricket, the ICC schedules and manages the world’s biggest cricketing events across all formats, Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.

These major ICC tournaments include the T20 World Cup, the Champions Trophy, the ODI World Cup, and the World Test Championship final.

Fortunately, the next few years are full of exciting cricket action. From 2027 to 2031, the global calendar is packed, giving cricket fans worldwide a lot to look forward to.

In October-November 2027, Namibia will host the Men’s Cricket World Cup for the first time alongside Zimbabwe and South Africa. South Africa and Zimbabwe last staged the event in 2003.

In October 2028, the T20 World Cup will be played in Australia and New Zealand, and 12 months later India will host the Champions Trophy.

In 2030, England and Wales will share T20 World Cup hosting duties with Ireland and Scotland. It will be the first time since 1999 that Ireland and Scotland have hosted a major global cricket event.

The final scheduled event, in October-November 2031, will be the Men’s Cricket World Cup, played in India and Bangladesh.

On top of that, there will also be annual major cricket tournaments for women in a boost for the game. With a subcontinent-dominated schedule that will not see Australia host a female tournament until at least 2029.

How India-Pakistan tensions have disrupted ICC events hosting?

The fraught political ties between India and Pakistan have spilt over into cricket, with both teams avoiding bilateral series against each other. The Indian cricket team has not travelled to Pakistan since the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, although the Pakistan team toured India in 2012-13.

India has not allowed Pakistani players to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since its first season in 2008.

Relations further deteriorated over the past decade, with attacks in Pathankot, Uri, Pulwama and the subsequent Balakot strike, India’s abrogation of Article 370, and most recently, the Pahalgam attacks.

However, during these tense periods, both sides continue to play against each other in ICC events until the 2025 Champions Trophy hosted by Pakistan.

Amid the geopolitical tensions, India demanded a neutral venue. Thus, the ICC was forced to accommodate all Indian matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), depriving Pakistan of its full hosting rights. Further, adding to the logistical inconvenience.

Moreover, at the ICC's Board meeting, chaired by Jay Shah in Ahmedabad on May 31, 2026, it was confirmed that India will not travel to Pakistan for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2028 and play their games at a neutral venue.
