Delhi Capitals trumped Punjab Kings in a high-scoring thriller in match number 55 of the IPL 2026 season. On a trail of seven defeats in their last nine games, the Capitals overcome past demons and a top-order collapse to chase down a 200-plus total with an over to spare.

Visting skipper Axar Patel hogged the limelight with the bat at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, smearing 56 runs off just 30 balls with eight boundaries and two huge sixes. Punjab Kings’ premium paceman Arshdeep Singh also bowled his heart out in the high-scoring game, but his fighting spell was rendered fruitless owing to lack of assistance from his bowling colleagues.

Notably, both Axar and Arshdeep were spotted being engaged in a serious discussion with each other after the match. Capitals cricketer and ex-Punjab Kings star Ashutosh Sharma also seemingly ‘handled’ the senior Indian fast bowler at one stage during the confrontation.

After the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala, India teammates and IPL rivals Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel were involved in a seemingly intense discussion with each other.

While Axar did most of the talking, Arshdeep Singh nodded and occasionally responded to the cricketer’s expressive tone. Fellow Delhi Capitals batter and ex-Punjab Kings star Ashutosh Sharma also joined in the debate, only to hold the senior fast bowler by his paceman and push him back and forth.

While there is no audio footage of the exchange, it is difficult to determine the exact nature of the conversation. It may simply have been a passionate post-match discussion rather than an altercation.

Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals: As it happened

Punjab Kings batted first and charted 210-5 in 20 overs, with attacking opener Priyansh Arya making 56 off 33 balls. Captain Shreyas Iyer top-scored in the innings through his calculated 36-ball 59*. Cooper Connolly scored a handy 38 in the middle overs, and Suryansh Shedge blasted 21* off just eight deliveries at the death.

Defending 211, Arshdeep Singh started off the Delhi Capitals innings with two huge wickets of KL Rahul and Sahil Parakh. Slipping to 33-3 inside the powerplay, Capitals skipper Axar Patel and hard-hitting David Miller counterattacked with blistering half-centuries.

Cracking cameos from Ashutosh Sharma and Madhav Tiwari eventually blazed the Capitals past Punjab Kings in 19 overs.

PBKS dig its own grave, Capitals climb higher

With the defeat, the Punjab Kings franchise has now suffered four losses in a row to lose their early advantage this IPL 2026 season. With six wins and four defeats from 11 matches, they now need to win at least two of their three remaining fixtures to guarantee a spot in the playoffs.

The Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, climbed higher on the 10-team standings to remain in contention for making it to the season’s top four.
