The IPL 2026 season, much like all preceding seasons, has been blessed with some exhilarating contests and high-octane run chases. However, the ongoing edition of the tournament has also been plagued with a certain unexpected off-field problem, pertaining to player’s partners.
Several Indian cricket players have been spotted with their girlfriends off late. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has no problems with players hanging out with their partners, top IPL officials are not pleased with the fact that some partners are even accompanying the players during team travels.
Since many of those ‘partners’ also happen to be social media influencers, a recent report mentioned that the board is wary of the fact that such influencers can accidentally leak sensitive information pertaining to the league. Last week, the BCCI issued a warning to all IPL franchises in regards to such potential ‘honey trap’ and security risks of players.
It now appears that another T20 tournament after the IPL is set to follow the BCCI guidelines.
Mumbai T20 League 2026 to follow BCCI’s Honey Trap guidelines
Amidst the hype and frenzy of IPL 2026, a new edition of another T20 league is currently brewing. The 2026 season of the Mumbai T20 League, set to be played in June, will feature familiar names like Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Ajinkya Rahane, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dube among others.

Prior to the launch of the Mumbai T20 League 2026 season, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Ajinkya Naik recently spoke about the recent BCCI guidelines about potential ‘honey trap’ of players.
When asked if the Mumbai T20 League will also follow the BCCI guidelines in light of the ongoing IPL 2026 ‘girlfriend’ controversy, Naik gave an encouraging reply.
While speaking to RevSportz, the MCA president said “We as an association will follow the BCCI guidelines. Whatever the BCCI tells us, whatever the guidelines are; we will make sure that as a state association we follow that.”
BCCI’s warning for IPL 2026 franchises
Earlier this month, the BCCI sent a strong message to all IPL 2026 franchises for keeping a close eye on their players. The official warning stated “The BCCI / IPL Operations Team may conduct periodic checks to assess adherence to the directives set forth in this Advisory. Team Managers are required to maintain records of all approved guest visits and hotel movements.”
The BCCI and the IPL governing body also warned franchises that any breach of the board’s directives shall be “treated as a serious disciplinary matter.”
Mumbai T20 League 2026 to be played right after IPL 2026
The Mumbai T20 League 2026 will launch on June 1, i.e., just a day after the conclusion of the IPL 2026 season.
With such a cramped schedule, players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane might find it difficult to become straightaway available for the tournament if teams like Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings or KKR make it to the final.
With the Mumbai T20 League now set to follow the BCCI’s newly-issued directives as well, the board’s growing concern over potential security risks and information leaks in franchise cricket has become difficult to ignore.
