The cricketer also missed the series-opening first ODI match earlier this week at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. As per reports, the 29-year-old experienced lower back pain during a practice session before the first ODI.Hasaranga’s injury woes continue to mountThe latest setback adds to Wanindu Hasaranga’s growing list of injury concerns, which have repeatedly disrupted his availability for Sri Lanka in recent times.Just earlier this year during the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at home, the cricketer was ruled out of Sri Lanka squad after he missed their match against Oman owing to an injury. He was later replaced by 31-year-old Dushan Hemantha.He was also forced to miss the entire IPL 2026 season in India this year, after having represented the Rajasthan Royals back in 2025.Notably, a couple of years ago, the 29-year-old also missed the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India after suffering a hamstring injury.After making his return to Sri Lanka squad for the tour of West Indies in June, a lower back pain concern has now once again sidelined Wanindu Hasaranga midway into the series in England. When will Wanindu Hasaranga return to action for Sri LankaAs of now, it remains to be seen when will Hasaranga make his return for the Sri Lanka cricket team. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is yet to provide an official update on his injury or a timeline for his return to competitive action.Fortunately for Sri Lanka, he was not named in the national squad for the upcoming Asian Games Men’s T20 2026 event in Japan, which will give him some much-needed time to recover and regain full fitness before returning to the field.However, Hasaranga will be expected to play for Sri Lanka in their upcoming three-match T20I tour of Pakistan next month.
