Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a complete all-round performance to help India Under-19 register a thrilling 18-run victory over Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
After a couple of underwhelming outings, the 14-year-old left-hander roared back into form, proving once again why he is being hailed as a new generational talent.
Batting at the top of the order, Suryavanshi played a fearless and mature knock of 72 runs off 67 balls.
The young player started aggressively, putting pressure on the Bangladesh bowlers from the outset, and reached his half-century in just 30 deliveries.
His innings provided India with much-needed momentum in a match reduced by rain, with the target later revised to 166 runs under the DLS method.
With this win, India is currently sitting at the top of Group B's points table with two wins in two matches played so far.
Suryavanshi's brilliant catch reminds fans of SKY
However, it was not just his batting that made headlines. In a tense moment during Bangladesh’s chase, Suryavanshi showcased exceptional awareness in the field.
On the second ball of the 26th over, with Bangladesh at 129/5, Samiun Basir Ratul launched a lofted inside-out shot towards long-off.
The ball seemed destined to clear the ropes, but Suryavanshi timed his jump perfectly near the boundary, grabbed the ball cleanly, and ensured his feet stayed inside the rope.
The catch instantly reminded fans of Suryakumar Yadav’s iconic boundary catch to dismiss David Miller in the final over of the 2024 T20 World Cup final.
While SKY’s effort was more difficult, Suryavanshi’s calmness and quick thinking in a high-pressure situation drew widespread praise and comparisons on social media.
